Republican State Senator Tim Bivins of Dixon (northwestern IL) led the effort to reject the re-appointment of Munir Muhammad to a third term on the IL Human Rights Commission.

A longtime member of the Illinois Human Rights Commission was denied another term Thursday, in part because of material on his website about the Nation of Islam that condemned interracial marriage.
Those opposed to re-appointing Munir Muhammad to the commission also said he has praised Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is known for human rights abuses and strident opposition to Israel.
"To appoint someone with these radical views to the Human Rights Commission, I think is a travesty," said Sen. Tim Bivins, R-Dixon.
Muhammad is an official in the Coalition for the Remembrance of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, who led the Nation of Islam for decades.

The vote was 20 in favor of the appointment, 30 opposed, indicating a handful of Democrats sided with the Republican minoritty. Still, Muhammad was an appointee of Democrat Governor Pat Quinn.

Gov. Pat Quinn's office wouldn't discuss the nomination. "The Senate has voted and we'll move on from here," spokeswoman Brooke Anderson said.

A senior Iranian legislator blasted a gay parade planned to be held in the Muslim state of Azerbaijan on May 26, warning that Baku will soon regret holding the event.
"The parade has been planned based on the goals of the Zionists and the world arrogance (the US)," member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Mohammad Esmayeel Kossari told FNA on Saturday.
"The Azeri government which paves the way for the gathering of such immoral groups as homosexuals through this method (of action) should know that it will be struck by problems in the near future and the country's political and state officials will regret this move," he added.

Reuters is reporting, "Pakistan blocks Twitter access over "blasphemous content":

Pakistan on Sunday blocked access to Twitter in response to "blasphemous" material posted by users on the microblogging and social networking website, a senior government official said.
"This has been done under the directions of the Ministry of Information Technology. It's because of blasphemous content," said Mohammed Yaseen, chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
"They (the ministry) have been discussing with them (Twitter) for some time now, requesting them to remove some particular content," he said.
Any representation of the Prophet Mohammad is deemed un-Islamic and blasphemous by many Muslims, who constitute the overwhelming majority in Pakistan

About 150 people gathered Thursday near the state Capitol to hear advocates for bills in the state House and Senate that would ban implementation of foreign laws, a move they hope will curtail Islamic Sharia law in the U.S.
Similar legislation has been proposed in about two dozen states and approved in three.
The Michigan bills don't specifically name Sharia law. But speakers and others Thursday frequently cited it as a concern.
The House version of the bill, sponsored by Grandville Republican Dave Agema, is in committee.
Rep. Agema is a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the City of Allegan, Michigan. Back in February, Agema and a coalition of groups concerned about rising threats from Radical Islam sponsored by a speech by noted Muslim against Sharia speaker Kamil Saleem. At the last minute the school district shut them down.

Michigan Republicans gathered at Cobo Center this weekend to launch the 2012 campaign and elect representatives to the Republican National Committee.
The latter exercise turned into a purge of incumbents, as former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land of Byron Center and state Rep. Dave Agema of Grandville ousted state Rep. Holly Hughes of Montague and former state party Chairman Saul Anuzis of Lansing from their seats on the RNC.

In response to the Facebook co-founder, billionaire living in Singapore, who has giving up his U.S. citizenship in order to stave off hundreds of millions in tax dollars owed to the U.S. government, Senator Chuck Schumer of New York has proposed an ex-pat tax.

The Hill reports, "Norquist compares Sen. Schumer’s tax-dodger bill to the Nazis, communists":

“I think Schumer can probably find the legislation to do this. It existed in Germany in the 1930s and Rhodesia in the ’70s and in South Africa as well,” said Norquist. “He probably just plagiarized it and translated it from the original German.”
The Nazis infamously implemented a departure tax on Jews who tried to flee Germany before World War II. Schumer is Jewish.
The ATR president, the driving force behind an anti-tax pledge signed by the vast majority of Republican lawmakers, added that the communist East German government after World War II implemented a similar plan.
“The East Germans had the position that if you wanted to leave the country you had to pay them back for all the wonderful Communist education they gave you K through 12,” he said. “Schumer’s effort has a really distinguished history.”

Prosecutors said the men were self-described anarchists who boasted weeks earlier about the damage they would do in Chicago, including one who declared, "After NATO, the city will never be the same."
At one point, one of the suspects asked the others if they had ever seen a "cop on fire."
Three activists who traveled to Chicago for a NATO summit were accused Saturday of manufacturing Molotov cocktails in a plot to attack President Barack Obama's campaign headquarters, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's home and other targets.
The men allegedly bought fuel at a gas station for the makeshift bombs, poured it into beer bottles and cut up bandanas to serve as fuses.
The suspects are Brian Church, 20, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Jared Chase, 24, of Keene, N.H.; and, Brent Vincent Betterly, 24, of Oakland Park, Fla.
If convicted on all counts — conspiracy to commit terrorism, material support for terrorism and possession of explosives — the men could get up to 85 years in prison.

His Act 10 was churned out by the American Legislative Exchange Council(ALEC), a legislation mill that is owned by energy billionaires, the Koch brothers. ALEC boasts corporate members that include(d) Coca-Cola, Microsoft, and AT&T and other GOP governors, in New Jersey, Ohio, Florida, and Indiana have passed similar rubber-stamped ALEC legislation. ALEC, like Americans for Prosperity and FreedomWorks, are all fronts that the Kochs have used to dupe everyday Americans into serving their ultimate agenda of privatizing America.
Though this may look good on paper to those critical of government, it will only result in the transformation of America from a First World economy into a Third World economy with no middle class. Only haves and have nots.

When confronted with quotes from Obama's book, even these (presumably) liberal New Yorkers express surprise. They appear to be most shocked by the revelations of his admitted cocaine use, and his hanging out with Marxists and attending Socialist meetings while in college.

LR Readers may recall Michelle Fields as a self-described "libertarian" journalist who had a famous clash with actor Matt Damon, a couple years ago, while reporting for Reason. (See WaPo article "Matt Damon’s clash with libertarian journalist Michelle Fields on education is a viral hit" here).

The so-called fringe group, the “birthers” have now been vindicated. It seems it is not so crazy that so many Americans believe that Barack Obama was born in Kenya, not Hawaii.
Yesterday, it was revealed by Breitbart.com that the former literary agent for Barack Obama listed his birthplace as Kenya as far back as 1991. The notation was discovered in an informational booklet that promoted the authors associated with Acton and Dystel, an agency representing authors. Back in 1991, Obama was working on his first book, but it was never finished. Years later, he did write two books and continued to be represented by Acton and Dystel. The Kenyan birth description remained in his official biography until April of 2007, two months before Obama announced his campaign for President.
The “birthers” have been ridiculed by the mainstream media as obsessive kooks, who are not willing to accept Obama as President. These liberals, along with many in the conservative media, like to claim that “birthers” are racists who have delusional dreams of removing Obama from office.
Yet, in recent weeks, more evidence has been released to support “birther” theories. Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio revealed the results of his exhaustive investigation into the Obama birth certificate. His team of investigators, the “cold case posse” concluded that there is evidence to suspect the birth certificate and other Obama documents, such as his Selective Service registration, are fraudulent. Arpaio noted that this new disclosure just adds to the mystery. He said “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

Additionally:

While the Washington Post was busy reporting on a hazing incident from Mitt Romney’s distant past, major portions of Obama’s high school, college, law school, legal career, and Illinois State Senate records remain off limits to the American people.
The American people have not seen Obama’s grades or his college thesis. While his admirers claim he is brilliant, Americans have not seen any proof such as superlative report cards.
This explosive report about his biography has already been ignored by the mainstream news media. Only a few conservative websites are even reporting the Kenyan birth claim. ABC News did contact the editor who claimed that she mistakenly included his Kenyan birth in the biography. If so, why didn’t Barack Obama correct it during the 16 year period in which it was a major part of his biography?
It is more likely that Obama supplied the editor with the information about his Kenyan birth.
He was either lying to make his background seem more exotic or appealing to readers or it was the truth and we have seen a massive cover-up for the past five years, the biggest such cover-up and political fraud in our history.

Plainfield resident Dan Reale, the Libertarian Party candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s 2nd District, on Saturday formally asked for cross-endorsement from the Republican Party before Friday’s Republican convention. Reale has been seeking Republican support since February 2011 in speeches throughout the region.

Reale is a hearing aid technician who lives in Plainfield. He is a former Democrat.

Editor's comment - Unfortunately, he appears to be a Ron Paulist on national security issues, with typical left-libertarian rhetoric against "nation building," and "policing the world." But one notable bright spot: "A strong navy and airforce/a professional army." (We hope to do an interview with Mr. Reale in the next few days.) Cute name for his website.

"I understand what I did is challenging to some. I’m very comfortable with it. I’m a moderate Republican now. I was a moderate Democrat, but Roy Schmidt is not changing what he believes in."

He tells WZZM radio:

"It's tough. It's tough. It's kind of painful, but I feel a lot better than I did yesterday," Schmidt said.

Western MI Rep. Roy Schmidt, seeking his third term, switched to the GOP minutes before the filing deadline on Wednesday.

Michigan Democrats are taking the switch especially hard. MI Dem Chair Mark Brewer was quoted by WoodTV.com:

"We wish Schmidt well in the anti-women, anti-senior, anti-children Republican Party. He should be ashamed of this desperate, craven deed. Only someone who does not possess the conviction or confidence to face the voters would pull a stunt like this. He'll fit in perfectly with the Republicans."

Still other Dems are admitting that the switch doesn't come as a great surprise.

“We believe the reluctance of the media and the Government to discuss the issue that there is a disproportionate representation of Muslims in such cases and why the victims are almost always non-Muslim girls is only adding to the vote bank of far-Right groups such as the BNP and the EDL,” they say.
“In addition we wish to bring to your attention the fact that the same sex gangs have also targeted Hindu and Sikh girls in the same manner, and these cases are rarely reported on as they hardly ever reach the courts.
“We believe that political correctness stifles debate and will not facilitate a frank and mature discussion or solutions to get to the root of why the above pattern is emerging in these crimes and how to help find a solution to the problem. This can only be done by working with the responsible majority in the community involved. Islamists may be fighting us, but overall Americans not anxious to fight back

Nearly two-out-of-three Likely U.S. Voters (63%) believe there is a conflict in the world today between Western civilization and Islamic nations...
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 18% of voters feel there is not a global conflict now between the West and Islamic nations. Another 19% are not sure. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters nationwide was conducted on May 10-11, 2012 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.

Creeping Sharia breaks down the numbers:

63% total—80% of Republicans and 62% of Independents, but only (or even?) 46% of Democrats—believe there is a conflict between Islamdom and Western civilization

Still, Americans by-and-large are not anxious to fight back. Continuing from Ras:

most also think the United States should leave the Islamic world alone. (26% believe the United States should be aggressive... 58% maintain the US should leave matters alone, and 16% are undecided.)

As Creeping S. sums it up:

After nearly 19,000 jihadist attacks since 9/11/2001, perhaps these somber, if Islamo-Realistic views, are influenced by a phenomenon Nicolai Sennels characterized in his essay, and plea for moral clarity in nomenclature, “Islamonausea, not Islamophobia.”

Editor's comment - Fully 80% of Republicans take the Islamist threat seriously. That's encouraging for us pro-defense libertarians. That also means the Ron Paul wing is out of the mainstream of the GOP.

The Massachusetts (and Michigan, and California, and New Hampshire) moderate-to-conservative, seems to be playing well with Middle America.

The best bit of news for Mitt Romney is that his Gallup favorability rating has just crested 50 percent, only 2 points behind the president. Better still, Romney’s negative rating is lower than Obama’s – 46 percent to 41 percent. Much of Romney’s 11-point rise since February can be attributed to the end of the bruising Republican primary process. Not only have Republicans coalesced, but the daily news cycle is no longer dominated by reporters gleefully repeating the latest attacks from Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich.
Moderates and independents are open to the idea of a Romney presidency. They may not find him as likable as Obama, but they find him acceptable. That’s why Romney’s first general election ad asks voters to imagine “Day One” of a Romney president: See, it’s not scary, it might even be kind of nice.

Here's the latest Romney ad released just yesterday. Appealing to both moderates and those on the right.

“Encounters like this are very important because we see not only the Jewish side of the story, which we know and which we support, but also the Palestinian side of the story,” he said. “And of course, being a nationalist, I can cope with both these native peoples who have their way of thinking about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
Creyelman added, “In our country it’s quite important because we have a lot of Muslim immigrants who tend to be more radical than they are in the Middle East.”
His remarks were echoed by Belgian MP Tanguy Veys, who noted that “in Europe and Belgium, most supporters of the Palestinian cause are Muslim extremists and extreme left politicians. For the first time, I felt that there’s also a possibility to have a peace message.”
European Parliament member Filip DeWinter echoed his colleagues’ sentiments and also had an important message for Israelis.
“People in Israel have to know that they have a lot of friends here in Europe, because I think we have a common struggle going on: the struggle against radical Islam,” said DeWinter. “We are aware of the fact that Israel is the only European, Western and democratic country in the Middle East, surrounded by radical Islamic countries who want to kick all the Israelis into the sea.

A group of men wearing burka-like face masks, shouted obscenities at nearby police from behind a fence. Including: "suck my cock," and "you want to suck my dick faggots."

The protest took place in Albany, California on May 14. The are believed to be affiliated with the local Occupy group. It was reported by the local Patch.com.

Senate Republicans unanimously object

He's a leading member of Louis Farakhan's Nation of Islam in Chicago. Illinois Democrats have spoken up for the appointment of Munir Muhammad to the IL Human Rights Commission. Leftist Senator Jamie Meeks was quoted:

"I don’t think we can be biased just because somebody is of the Muslim faith."

But Republicans concerned about his anti-American stances, spoke up against his appointment. From WUIS News "Senate Republicans Rail Against Human Rights Commission Member":

Republican Senator Tim Bivens (photo) from Dixon took issue with a segment in which Muhammad spoke with the president of Iran.
TIM BIVENS: “He complemented him on his show, saying he was a patient person and that he was remarkable in that he sat down and talked with others.”
Muhammad has served on the state’s Human Rights Commission since 2003. Members are currently paid nearly 47-thousand dollars a year. A majority of Senators including all Republicans in attendance rejected his reappointment.

Don't dare try to gather petition signatures for a tax reform initiative, property rights, pro-2nd Amendment, dry-to-wet alcohol issue, casino gambling or even Libertarian Party ballot access at a Wal-mart. You'll be kicked off the property by the go-cart driving security within 20 minutes.

But if you're a Muhammedan, at least according to this video above, Wal-mart security will just look the other way.

Bottom line: Anything Pro-America is not permitted. If it's a threat to America, and the American way of life, Wal-mart doesn't seem to mind.

Representatives of the government's ruling Islamist Party in Algeria have gone on a rampage the last few months, closing down hundreds of bars in the country. Speak easys are springing up as a result, but can hardly keep up with demand.

Dozens of bars and off-licences have definitively closed in recent months, including taverns that had existed since the French colonial era, in a country that is almost entirely Muslim but where many remain fiercely secular.

“Beer is so expensive there, only those who ban it will be able to afford it. That's the problem with prohibition Algerian-style, Al Capone and the cops are one and the same,” he said, erupting into roaring laughter.

Editor's note - Don't expect to see any reporting of this at left-libertarians sites like Cato, LewRockwell.com, Reason, Daily Paul, TheAgitator, Humble Libertarian, et.al. Muslim prohibitionism doesn't fit the template. Of course, if this was Christians closing down bars, they'd be all over the story, like flies on an open dish of beernuts.

A mob of Islamic hard-liners threw stones and bags of urine at the HKBP Filadelphia congreagation of the Batak Christian Protestant Church in Bekasi, on the outskirts of Jakarta, at an Ascension Day service on Thursday. Police tried to stop the mob of some 300 people, but were also attacked, according to reports.
“They assaulted the congregation members,” Rev. Palti Panjaitan told the Jakarta Globe on Thursday. “Police tried to talk to them, but the mob passed through police and showered us with urine and dirty water. Others threw stones at us.”
“Even after the service, which lasted one-and-a-half hours, the mob chased after us,” Rev. Palti said.
