Margaret Brennan saves Obama's bacon

by Clifford F. Thies

It was CBS News reporter Margaret Brennan who asked Secretary of State John Kerry at a press conference if there is anything Assad could do that would stop a U.S. military strike. To this thoroughly reasonable question, Kerry gave a hypothetical answer, almost in jest. Kerry said, “He could turn over every single bit of his chemical weapons to the international community in the next week. Turn it over, all of it, without delay, and allow a full and total accounting for that. But he isn’t about to do it, and it can’t be done, obviously.” The State Department immediately attempted to "explain away" his answer. But, it was already too late. Russian President Vladimir Putin almost immediately responded to the offer by Kerry, yes, we'll have Assad do that, now you call off your attack. What was President Barack Obama to do?

The answer is obvious, claim credit for brilliantly resolving the crisis. Wasn't this something he and Vlad had been talking about in secret, while insulting each other in public, these past few weeks? And, of course, wasn't it a stroke of genius to nominate such a windbag as Kerry to be Secretary of State, knowing that he would make a bone-headed mistake right when we needed one? Now, if Obama's sycophants in the left-wing news media have anything to do with it, he will go down in the history books for saving the world from a possible nuclear Armageddon, just like John F. Kennedy did; only, in both cases, it was they who put the world at risk in the first place.

Editor's note - We're a little late on this one. It should have run on Wednesday. But with all the election news out of Colorado, it got shelved. Apologies.
