Nanny-state conservatism in Arkansas: State Senate moves to limit body art and piercings

MEET THE ASSHOLE REPUBLICAN OF THE DAY!!

From Eric Dondero:

This is precisely why we have LIBERTARIAN in our name, and are not conservatives. It's because of conservative Republicans like State Senator Missy Irvin, District 18, Mountainview.

From the Arkansas Times, Missy Irvin pushes nanny state attack on tattoo parlors:
The Senate Public Health committee will need to consider the new Medicaid deal but they spent some time this morning to pass Sen. Irvin's Act to Limit Body Art Procedures, which bans scarification and dermal implants. (Scarification is a non-ink skin marking that forms scars for decorative purposes, while dermal implants refers to placing ornamental objects beneath the skin.)
Irvin and a Health Department official testified that they wanted to reduce infections but they mostly employed an "ew gross" strategy of talking about various procedures. They particularly harped on a "tongue-splitting" that was performed in Little Rock, even though that would not be impacted one way or the other by the legislation.
Irvin, an ostensibly small-government conservative who loves to use the legislature to boss citizens around about what they do with their bodies, was in fine form. At one point she compared scarification to female genital mutilation in Africa.  (Emphasis added.)
Editor's comment - This is precisely what differentiates us libertarians from conservatives. Not foreign policy as the Ron Paulists like to say. Too many conservatives are comfortable with the nanny-state. (I know a high-ranking Texas GOP State Senator, fantastic, 100% record on free markets, yet told me once he was just fine with seat belt laws.) Libertarians align with conservatives 80 to 90% of the time. But when it comes to issues like regulating tattoo parlors, we'll do everything we can to make life miserable for our "conservative cousins." and point out their hypocrisies. State senator Missy Irvin is rather cute, though.

I guess I should have pointed out that I reversed the photos.

The State Senator is the busty one with the tattoos on the bottom right.

A random woman's photo is the one up top on the left.

I hate Conservatives. Like you say Eric, they want to run everyone's lifes in the name of Jesus.

"Conservative" Brent Bozell wrote a column this last week ripping into those horrible (non-Jesus) video games people dare to play without his permission.

Social Conservatives and the far Left are, in my book, cut from the same cloth. Both groups want to get into your shorts, but for different reasons and in different ways. Screw both of them. They need to mind their own friggin business.

The GOP's deal with these folks has to end or Libertarian Republicans have to leave the party.

Just on a practical level, the party has gone about as far as it can on it's base of southern social conservatives. The strategy of giving up the more Libertarian west in exchange for adding mid western social conservatives basically failed. Social Conservatives turn the GOP into a hypocritical joke.

On the positive side, an increasing level of tolerance and libertarian thinking seems to be emerging in old bible belt states like Alabama. Alabama may get rid of it's state liquor stores before Pennsylvania does.
