Ah yes, the world turned completely upside down. In 1944 it was American troops (and British, Canadian and other Allied troops) who liberated Paris from the Nazis. Now the French are the liberators of countries living under the domination of tyrannical Nazi-like rulers.
Watch as French flags wave in the urban centers of Mali's non-Islamist Free Zone (southern half of Mali).

I'd like to be colonized again [by the French]
It doesn't get any more politically incorrect than that. Just think of how many liberals, anti-colonialists, anti-war activists and non-interventionists he just offended with that one single remark.
