The Blaine County Republican Central Committee passed a resolution on Tuesday to legalize marijuana in Idaho. The group does not condone marijuana use, but believes the War on Drug has failed and that prohibition is not the answer. The resolution is not a law, nor will it lead to a law. It simply shows that the committee officially supports legalization. The resolution passed on a vote of 6-2. Discussion prior to the vote focused on the failed War on Drugs and the most effective ways to keep marijuana out of the hands of children. The text of the resolution reads, “The Blaine County GOP believes that the time has come to amend criminal prohibition and replace it with a system of legalization and education.”Editor's comment - Times have indeed changed for the GOP. This ain't your grandpappy's Republican Party any more. Problem is too many Libertarians (cough, cough - Reason - uuuurrrhhhh, clearing throat - Cato - cough, cough) still fail to acknowledge the increasing "libertarianization" of the Republican Party, and like to pretend Republicans are just as big of a problem as Democrats.

From Eric Dondero: Boy, you would have never seen a headline like this back in the late 1980s, or early 1990s, during the height of the War on Drugs: "GOP Committee Supports Marijuana Legalization in Idaho." Via nugget.com:
