Unlikely libertarian hero: Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder

Right-to-work to come to MI thanks to Gov., GOP legislature

by Eric Dondero

Free market advocates have been lukewarm to Michigan Governor Rick Snyder ever since his election in 2010. His record for supporting limited government policies has been decidedly mixed.

Now he has stated that he will sign legislation to establish the upper Mid-West State as Right-to-work.

From the Chicago Tribune, "Michigan GOP approves right to work amid union protests":
Democrats denounced the bills as an attack on worker rights, but the GOP sponsor insisted they would boost the economy and jobs. A House vote on public-sector unions was expected to come later.

A victory in Michigan would give the right-to-work movement its strongest foothold yet in the Rust Belt region, where organized labor already has suffered several body blows. Republicans in Indiana and Wisconsin recently pushed through legislation curbing union rights, sparking massive protests.

Even before the Michigan bills turned up, protesters streamed inside the Capitol preparing for what appeared inevitable after Snyder, House Speaker Jase Bolger and Senate Minority Leader Randy Richardville announced at a news conference they were putting the issue on a fast track.

"This is all about taking care of the hard-working workers in Michigan, being pro-worker and giving them freedom to make choices," Snyder said.
Union thugs were not at all happy with the move. Continuing:
Lt. Gov. Brian Calley repeatedly gaveled for order during the Senate debate as Democrats attacked the legislation to applause from protesters in the galley. At one point, a man shouted, "Heil Hitler! Heil Hitler! That's what you people are."
Ironically, Hitler, a German Socialist Workers Party member and diehard economic leftist, would have also opposed Right-to-work.

Union shop rules are the most baffling thing I encountered when I moved to the US. We ditched these things more than 25 years ago in the UK (sympathy strikes -- like then one that paralysed the Los Angeles docks recently are illegal too in the UK).

Yes those in Michigan were Luke-warm to Snyder and he has pissed some on both sides off, however this guy does what he knows is right. As a former CEO Snyder knows whats "right" (no pun intended)is not always popular and continues to show no fear. Unions in this State are useless and the leaders know it or they would support this bill.

Unions are obsolete. Their savior Obama is trying to stem the tide of their eventual demise, but the union model is a 19th and 20th century model that has no place in the 21st century. Good riddance.

This just strengthens my belief that Obama won reelection due to massive voter fraud. How do states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania who have either a large or super majority Republican presence in the state legislature and Republican governors vote overwhelmingly in the Presidential election for a Marxist???
