Secession efforts led by "Libertarians," not necessarily conservatives as being reported by the media

Alabama leader owned a topless car wash in Dothan

The liberal media is portraying the burgeoning secession movement in southern, plains states and Rocky Mountain states as a conservative effort. But we now have the first evidence, that indeed, it may be more libertarian.

From the Daily Caller, "Who wrote the secession petitions?":
Alabama

Derrick Belcher’s petition for Alabama secession gathered 25,000 signatures in five days — not quite Texas speed, but better than the nearly 70 competing efforts from the 49 other states.

“I don’t think the federal government is being fair to the American people,” Belcher told WTVY-4 in Dothan, Ala.

“I think they are being overbearing. They are taxing us to death, and they are taking away our freedoms at a breakneck speed.”

He said Alabama’s independence from Washington, D.C. isn’t just a pipe dream.

“I believe that they will have to take it seriously,” Belcher claimed, “because when 25,000 people speak up and say ‘This is what we want’ — I mean, they are making some noise.”

Mobile Press-Register reporter George Talbot wrote Tuesday that Belcher is “a truck driving, knife collecting former owner of a topless car wash who describes himself as ‘an absolute Libertarian.’”

Secession, Belcher told the Press-Register, would allow states to opt out of welfare programs and other federal government entitlements.

“The people who want those handouts, it’ll force them to move to a different state,” he said. “It will consolidate working people and that’s how we turn things around.”
Others featured in the piece come across as far more libertarian or Ron Paul constitutionalist than mainstream conservative.

You do know that it was the STATE of ALABAMA that closed him down for violating STATE obscenity laws--NOT the federal government? Typical ignorance from the right-wing...

Led by libertarians, republicans or conservatives is a waste of time and effort and thinking. Consider this: we all are a LRC in different varying degrees. For instance, I am a libertarian because I believe in the rights individuals, A Republican because I believe in morality and ethics of individuals, and Conservative because I believe in preserving the freedoms of individual rights, the ethics and morality of Republicanism, and preserving and conserving the traditions and customs of libertarians, republicans and conservatives. I prefer individual rights first, morality and ethics a close second and conservatism a close third. There is one only one political party, the LRC for it believes in individual freedom. Democratic party is not legitimate under our constitution for they believe in the group and are statist/big government.
