From Eric Dondero:
The Alaska House has a heavy majority of Republicans. However, the Senate side is split 10 to 10, Repub to Dem. Alaska's usually mild-mannered Republican Governor is now planning to campaign across the State to increase the GOP majority in the upper chamber. He recently attempted to push through a large tax cut on oil production, that was blocked by Democrats in the Senate.
From the
Juneau Empire, "Alaska governor to play role in legislative races":
“I’m much more interested in having people who want to serve together on behalf of Alaskans and grow our economy through less spending, less taxes and kind of that liberty mentality,” he said.
Parnell said legislators have to work across party lines to get things done, but “it’s either going to be controlled by those with a world view that includes more personal freedom, less government dependence, or the opposite.”
Interesting Factoid for Political Junkies - Four members of the Alaska House of Reps elected as Democrats, actively caucus with the Republican majority.
Editor's comment - I guess you could call them "Democrat-Republicans."
