Who exactly is intolerant of diversity?

by Eric Dondero

Well, well, well. The secretary-general of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu said over the weekend at at a Eurasian Economic Summit in Istanbul, that the rightwing across Europe was intolerant. He further stated that rightwing extremist groups oppose diversity.

Presumably he was talking of the English Defense League, Geert Wilders in the Netherlands and his Party For Freedom (PVV), Vlaams Belang in Belgium, Marine Le Pen and the NF in France, and various aligned rightist libertarian parties in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Italy and Spain.

From Hurriyat Daily News, Cultural dialogue matchless for peace:
“Peace culture has to be renewed, this is what we owe to future generations, we ought to do our bit for them,” he said. “A dangerous and ambiguous situation exists in the world nowadays,” he added.

“Extremist rightist movements bother societies in Europe. These groups are intolerant of cultural diversity. Even though they are a minority now, we cannot ignore the potential of creating an unstable environment. When we take a glance at social media we see how fast hatred spreads. Islam and Muslims became a target for these groups.

In these countries where Islamaphobia rises up, politicians back these groups. The outcome is exclusion for immigrants and abuse of human rights,” İhsanoğlu said.
Perhaps he was thinking of diversity other than Jews, blacks, gays, alternative lifestyles advocates, and Westernized un-veiled women?
