NC Dem E.D. Parmley resigns over gay sex scandal

Alleged to have sexualy harrassed a young male intern

From Eric Dondero:

We reported Saturday, "Gay Sex Scandal threatens to cast a shadow over Democrat National Convention in North Carolina":
As late as Monday, North Carolina Democrat Executive Director Jay Parmley was pumping up the Democrat National Convention, scheduled for Charlotte.

From WRAL.com, "Party faithful campaigning to be convention delegates":
North Carolina Democratic Party executive director Jay Parmley said Monday that a trip to a convention is the ultimate reward for longtime volunteers.

"For these party activists, it's the pinnacle of their success and their career in politics, so to speak, Parmley said.
And then late Thursday this story broke, from the Beaufort Observer, "N. C. Democrat Party embroiled in a gay sexual harassment scandal and coverup":

Matthew Boyle of the Daily Caller is reporting:
A former North Carolina Democratic Party staffer was sexually harassed by a party official, made a financial settlement with the party and signed a non-disclosure agreement to keep the incident quiet.

"If this hits the media, the Democratic Party, our candidates, and our credibility are doomed in this election," reads one email exchange between state Democratic leaders.
A libertarian twist to the story develops

Now the Daily Caller reports:
North Carolina Democratic Party executive director Jay Parmley resigned Sunday in the wake of allegations that he sexually harassed one of his former communications staffers.
What's more, there seems to be a libertarian connection to the story.
“As you know last Friday, Tucker Carlson’s right-wing blog Daily Caller and Art Pope’s Civitas Institute began spreading a false and misleading story about a supposed incident of harassment at the NCDP,” Parmley wrote.
Art Pope is a former longtime member of the Libertarian Party. He was active at the highest levels of the Party in the late 1970s and early 1980s during the Ed Clark for President campaign. He was then elected to the NC State Legislature in 1988, and was one of the original founding members of the Republican Liberty Caucus. More recently, he's been active with Americans For Properity and free market think tanks in NC.
