MSN - Romney "lashed to... Ryan, Ayn Rand libertarian"

Your Daily Mitt!

From MSN Money, "Romney's views more harmful than his gaffes" by Jonathan Alter:
He has so lashed himself to Ryan, an Ayn Rand libertarian, that there's talk of Ryan going on the ticket. The Ryan-Romney plan -- from slashing federally funded scientific research to forcing seniors from nursing homes because of draconian Medicaid cuts -- will be wildly unpopular if Obama and his team find the resonant language to exploit it.
Editor's note - Ironically, while the liberal media ties Romney to capitalism, and even "Ayn Rand libertarianism" many libertarians don't accept him as even libertarian-leaning.

In fairness to the Romnster, he has taken an extraordinary journey, an evolution from his self-described "progressive" views to what are today individualist and libertarian-leaning.

Anyone who's been listening to his speeches as of late can see this. He has moved beyond the squish of the candidate of '07. Where 2001 was a wake-up call to America on cultural and defense issues, 2008 was a taser shock to Liberty itself. Romney appears to have gotten the message.

Romney and his administration and our next Congress are going to need all the support and pushing we can give them.

It isn't "of late". His political career in Massachusetts ended because he grew more conservative while in office. Personally, I like seeing these crowing dipshits vilifying people like Paul Ryan and Ayn Rand. It creates very clear lines...the sort that lead to landslides. Romney doesn't have to be the second coming of Edmund Burke to win a huge victory. He just needs to have those more conservative than he is behind him. The way Reagan did.

Ran is right. The views people hold can change over time because of new events. Ronald Reagan is an excellent example.

For all of Romney's faults, at least he believes free enterprise and private property should exist. That puts him head and shoulders above the Marxist sum in the Beltway.

I can't for the life of me see how Ryan's budget proposal is so draconian. It doesn't cut spending, it cuts the GROWTH of spending. With that budget adopted, the feds will still be spending MORE, not less, just not as much as they WANT to. If you ask me, it's a pretty wimpy proposal.

More importantly Chuck, it drives the left-libertarians crazy. The Ron Paulists, the guys at Cato, Reason, they don't know what to think when Romney is accused of being tied to "Ayn Randists."

But I'm one that notices their utter silence.

Eric Dondero said...

Jerry, you're one of our resident left-libertarians, though albeit one that understand a little, the threat from Islamism.

Can you tell us please - be honest - how does it make left-libertarians feel when Romney is attacked as "tied to Ayn Rand," or an "extremist capitalist," or a "government slasher"?

Does it drive y'all crazy?

Ran / SVP said...

Chuck's been saying something like "in a landslide." I have to agree, and the evidence is Christie's popularity in a blue state.

As Prager points out, Krispy Kreme articulates conservative-libertarian values. They comport with normative American values. CC is clear in his thoughts. Ditto Rubio.

Thus... Mitt need not fear articulating the issues from his libertarian-conservative framework in a sincere manner.

Total landslide winner.

The Democrats accuse Romney, Ryan et. al of being "Ayn Randists," "Social Darwinists" and so on because they think that the accusations damage the accused, not because they think the accusations are true.

Ayn Randists, Social Darwinists, et. al reject the accusations not just because they're false, but also because being associated with statist Republicans damages the brands involved.

Chuck said...

Anyone who'd like can claim that mantle. Including the people you just cited.

jgeleff said...

Eric, I disagree completely with your assigning a "left libertarian" label to me. I think that your criteria is A) Too stringent or B) just plain wrong. You're basing "left" on a single issue, and it's not that simple. Not at all. To boil it down that far is to do disservice to the term "libertarian". I'd hope that "left libertarians" would be bothered by being associated so closely with a socialist like Romney, though, or to be offended that the media could put "Romney" and "Rand" in any comparative sentence. To me it's a shame that people don't understand what is actually left and right, and instead lump everything together in that fashion.

Jarod said...

Sorry Eric, Ryan's no Objectivist. He's better than the average Republican, sure, but his budget plan is pretty weak.

Chuck said...

Who ever claimed Paul Ryan was an "objectivist", you fucking freak?

"Eric, I disagree completely with your assigning a "left libertarian" label to me."

Yeah. Me too. Jigglejeff is a piece of shit democrat shill working to get the worst president in the history of this county reelected.

J. Witt said...

Eric claims, as MSN Money, apparently. Sorry, Chuck, forgot it takes a lil while longer for you to figure out.

Chuck said...

No one has made the claim that Romney is an objectivist. What is it with you, son? Don't you realize you can't win if you cheat? And there is no such thing as successfully cheating in the realm of ideas.

What will you have won? I bet you cheat at solitaire. What a wretched waste of an otherwise valuable life.

You've proven you're the opposite of what you claim to be, but even still, don't you value yourself at all? What kind of person would do what you're doing? A good one?

Save yourself.

Chuck said...

Or should I have simply bent over, squeezed, and let out, "j witt be trolling" or some such drivel?

J. Witt said...

Ah, Chuck I wasn't talking about Romney, I was talking about Ryan.

J. Witt said...

Didn't mean to get you all worked up...

Chuck said...

Oh. Then:

Or I could've ....

J. Witt said...

Good... Good... Use your aggressive feelings, boy. Let the hate flow through you...

Chuck said...

Ahh. A Star Wars freak.

How did I know?

You people are fucking gross. You're probably eating a booger right now. Yummy.

Do you have something you'd like to say? So far you've said nothing.

Anything? Any beliefs you'd like to send out there for others to digest? Are you able to manage a paragraph? Or are you too wise to write more than six words at a stretch?

Be well. Er..I mean, well be. May the consequence-free force be with you.

J. Witt said...

You're a sad, sad little man, and you have my pity.

Eric Dondero said...

Jerry, I do base it on one single issue.

Islamism is the single most important issue of our lifetimes. 9/11 changed our lives forever. You're either pro-Islamist or you're pro-American. There's no middle ground. This is World War III. We are living it right now. The Euros are on the front lines. We're only seeing the beginnings of the War here in the U.S.

You are better than most left-libertarians I'll admit. At least you recognize the problem. But you still have a ways to go.

Eric Dondero said...

Jarod, nobody cares that you judge Ryan not to be an Ayn Randist (I hate that label - Objectivist, Individualist or Ayn Randist is much preferable.)

But people do care what ABC News, CNN, Fox, MSNBC, et.al. have to say. And they're judging Ryan to be an "Ayn Randist." So, they win, you lose.

jgeleff said...

"Yeah. Me too. Jigglejeff is a piece of shit democrat shill working to get the worst president in the history of this county reelected."--Think what you will, Chuck. That opinion means nothing coming from just another big government loving Republican.

Chuck said...

I read what you write, dumbass. Unlike you, I'm able to read what people write. I don't have to "deconstruct" the ridiculous turds you drop here. Your desire for democrat victory is obvious.

Your problem is with the truth, squirt. You've made yourself an enemy of the truth.

Bad decision.

Chuck said...

Has jwitt ever written anything more than a little fart of a sentence here?

What is a jwitt?

Chuck said...

It knows movie lines really well. It started with Star Wars and moved on to Toy Story.

What is a jwitt?

J. Witt said...

Chuck's starting to get dull, too repetitive.

Eric Dondero said...

Chuck can repeat himself all he wants.

He gets it on Islamism. Some others here don't.

Chuck said...

Notice how this shitbag that calls itself jwitt only has the ability to mutter the same thing over and over and over...then what it does is accuse it's betters of being repetitive. Imagine having to through life being as tragically stupid as this pathetic creature obviously is. What a nightmare. No wonder it's such a hate-filled loser.

jgeleff said...

"No wonder it's such a hate-filled loser."--The height of motherfucking hypocrisy is Chuck calling somebody hate filled.

AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Look in the mirror.

Chuck said...

You really aren't very good at this, jigglejeff. Were you not functionally illiterate, you'd understand that. Short of that, you're an example to everyone who reads this site. I suppose there is some value in that.
After all, if shit didn't stink, people might eat it.

So many of you are doing a horrible injustice to the libertarian name.

Romney is neither individualist nor libertarian-leaning.

His largest donors come from Wall Street, who own major stock in the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (and how they go, the Fed goes). There is nothing capitalist (the economics of libertarians) about the Federal Reserve. They manipulate the currency and interest rates to favor them while making the general public poorer.

He is a constant supporter of the greatest humanitarian problem in US history (worse than slavery), the War on Drugs. To support the War on Drugs is to not only spit in the face of self-ownership (the pillar of libertarian philosophy), but to support a policy that has given rise to the violent street gangs in the impoverished urban neighborhoods, as well as the horrid Mexican cartels.

Also, let us not forget his centralized, state run healthcare plan in Massachusetts, which was the basis for Obama's reforms.

So, no, there is absolutely nothing libertarian about Romney.

Secondly, Eric, you have absolutely zero idea what you are saying when you assert that Rockwell, Raimondo, Rothbard, or any of the other anarcho-capitalists are "left-libertarians." Left-libertarians despise capitalism and private property, especially "commercially owned" private property and the means of production. Those are the pillars of the anarcho-capitalist philosophy. Also, left-libertarians are LESS likely to use the non-aggression principle than right-libertarians.

Lastly, the assertion that "Islamism" (whatever that is) is the greatest threat to American freedoms is beyond laughable. The US has installed or supported no less than 5 despot dictators over the course of the last 60 years in the Middle East. We've supported Israel's apartheid, property right's violating actions concerning Palestine. It's despicable. I'd be pissed, too, if I were them.

And to think groups like al-Qaeda or a country like Iran is more of threat than the bank cartel that is literally stealing our wealth through inflation or the federal government that is imprisoning people for exercising their self-ownership rights while also destroying the impoverished neighborhoods is the epitome of delusional and absurd.

And you are suggesting we vote for a man who will be the epitome of a wealth stealing, property rights violating despot?

And you say you are a libertarian?

We have met the enemy, and it us.

Chuck said...

Speak for yourself, weasel. The Communist incumbent appreciates your devoted support.

It's laughable that you call yourself a libertarian, when you're a leftist piece of shit.

Get the fuck out of our libertarian movement, and don't you dare use our libertarian name ever again, asshole.

Fuck you, and have a nice day.

The strange irony is that Ron Paul is imminently more sane than his support base is. He's really good on an awful lot of issues. He's a pied piper of crazy retards, though.

It's paradoxical, but the reason he never had a chance is because of his supporters.
