Romney on Israel and the Middle East: Peace through Strength

Best moment of last night's debate?

by Clifford F. Thies

From Haaretz.com, "Romney: Palestinians don't want two-state solution, they want to eliminate Israel":
"Israelis would be happy to have a two-state solution. It's the Palestinians who don't want a two-state solution; they want to eliminate the State of Israel,” Romney said.

Romney went on to say that “whether it's in the political discourse that is spoken either from Fatah or from Hamas, there is a belief that the Jewish people do not have the right to have a Jewish state."

"I believe the best way to have peace in the Middle East is not for us to vacillate and to appease, but is to say we stand with our friend Israel; we are committed to a Jewish state in Israel; we will not have an inch of difference between ourselves and our ally Israel," he added.
We here at Libertarian Republican think Mitt is right. If we are resolute in our support of Israel, it could help to actually help to break the decades long impasse in getting about implementing a two-state solution. In the long run, we would hope that all the people of the region would be able to live in peace and prosperity, with free trade, and where border crossings are routine. But, being realistic, we will never get there if we cannot break the impasse to a two-state solution.

"the impasse to a two-state solution"

And by that you must mean the "palestinian" people accepting - for the first time in the entire 65 years of Israel's history - Israel's right to exist. GLWT. With such intransigence, no amount of pandering will be successful. Barry has been dead wrong, and Mittens gets this one right.

Mittens gets this one right, of course. But why isn't he being hailed internet-wide this morning? This was clearly a shining moment for his campaign, perhaps the best ever. He was passionate, on point, articulate, forceful.

Yet the liberal (and left-libertarian) media are ignoring it.

Did you see the look on Abraham's face? He thought he was going to get a dick sucking. Instead he got the ball peen hammer.

**** Israelis would be happy to have a two-state solution. ****

Sure, and I have some swamp land to sell you.

To this day Israel keeps confiscating the individual PRIVATE PROPERTY of Christian and Muslim Arabs and re-distributing the wealth of the buildings, land and farms to Jewish settlers.

It takes two to make peace and neither side wants it.

So in addition to being crazy as a shithouse rat, you're also a filthy fucking liar. Great.

Eric Dondero said...

Yeah Jim. That was the absolute best.

Romney could've given a pussy-footin' answer so as to satisfy the guy. Instead he chose to purposel insult him. I loved it!

Gary said...

**** you're also a filthy fucking liar ****

I present FACTS. Non-thinkers use insults to support their position.

Chuckie, I know you have no interest in facts, but visit the web-site below.

The site belongs to Christian Palestinian Daoud Nassar. His family has been farming his land for 100 years, and he has spent most of his adult life fighting Israel in court to keep his PRIVATE PROPERTY from being confiscated and the wealth re-distributed to others.

Sorry to say, Gary, but it's one sample of tyranny. One. You have to extrapolate from one to "prove" multiple, a logical fallacy by which you are therefor what Chuck called you - a filthy fucking liar.

OK. Perhaps you shower. But you have to admit - you have been caught-out here on other occasions lying your sweet fat ass off.

I can site better examples of tyranny - the chief flaw of Government, Israel's included.

As to the single example you've cited, it is not a support for your conclusion that "neither side wants peace." In the spirit of "never ascribe to malice what is caused by incompetence," I'll chalk it up to the fact that it's a topic about which you know sweet fuck all.

"Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passion, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence."

- - - John Adams

Ran, any HONEST person can look up the facts for themselves.

Block by block for decades Israel has been growing their nation by taking the PRIVATE PROPERTY of other people and re-distributing it to those the government favors.

These are simple facts that even Israel will agree with. Israel has taken the land and they want their settlers to keep it.

I am sorry that FACTS upset you, but even Israel is happy with this program.

The Right Guy said...

And the Jews were pushed out at one time and someone else took over. How far do we have to go back? Someone at some time is getting screwed and it seems all cultures go through it. You're just picking sides based on one point in a timeline.

Eric Dondero said...

Right you are Right Guy. The bottom line: Best to side with the side that's aligned with Western Civilization.

You cannot separate the fact that Israel is an outpost of civilization admist a horde of barbarian lands.

I just saw a statistic, 2/3rds of all Egyptians are married to their 1st or 2nd cousins. That's disgusting!!!

And 9 out of 10 Egyptian women have suffered through female genital mutilation.

And we're supposed to put them on the same level as the Israelis?

Piss on that Gary!

Ran / SVP said...

NO GARY.

That territory was held by "Jordan" until it attacked Israel, until Jordan ceded the territory.

My heart grieves for those stuck there, never having been citizens of the august realm of the "kingdom" of Jordan - a realm where, if memory serves, the land belonged to the "crown", not the serfs farming the place.

When Hussein lost his stupid war, the land became the possession of the Israeli government.

Daoud is getting screwed, sure. I dig it. It sucks. But the difficult fact remains that his claim to ownership is not a simple matter. The legal notion of Daoud's ownership began in any real sense when Hussein lost it.

This applies to every unlucky sod in the area. Despite your shouting "PRIVATE PROPERTY," it was never true, was it?

It is also a difficult fact that "settlers" who wish to live in Judea or Samaria are in Israel, that is, until they are kicked-out by the Israeli gov't or "granted permission." How the Hell does that work?

Israel is the only country on the fucking planet that can win territory in a defensive war and then not be permitted to possess the land?

It is also an uncomfortable fact that Muslim Arabs living in Israel are not treated as "settlers" but as citizens...

...More, this particular segment would in vast majority prefer to live under Israeli flags than the marxists and theocrats of "palestine." It has everything to do with property rights they enjoy in Israel unavailable to them under the totalitarian marxists and theocrats of "palestine."

There is far, far more to your "simple" facts that you realize.

Romney was lucky to get first draw on that question, so that he could pre-empt Gingrich.

However, I suspect that most pro-Israel voters in Florida are well aware that when it comes to being downright belligerently pro-Israel, nobody holds a candle to Gingrich.

Among Jewish Republicans, he'll probably beat Romney at least 2 to 1. He'll split pro-Israel evangelicals with Santorum, but probably get the bulk of those, too. And to the extent that there are any actual "neoconservative" voters, I'd be surprised if he got less than 9 of every 10.

Eric Dondero said...

Are you still predicting that Romney will lose Florida?

KN@PPSTER said...

Eric,

Of course I'm still predicting that Gingrich will win Florida.

I didn't make the prediction lightly, and I'm not going to change it just because a few Romney fangirls are getting their panties all moist fantasizing otherwise.

Gary said...

**** When Hussein lost his stupid war, the land became the possession of the Israeli government. ****

WRONG Ran.

You are confusing the flag flying on the flag pole outside a government building with who has the ownership of an individual house, business or farm.

This may come as a shock to you, but people all over the world own private property . . . including Arabs.

Try reading my article: Do Arabs have property rights?

http://thefederalist-gary.blogspot.com/2011/06/do-arabs-have-property-rights.html

The Right Guy said...

Interesting point Gary. I wonder how it has worked in other wars? Did Germans or Japanese lose land? Particularly if they moved into occupied territories that were later lost because their home countries lost the war.

War and Peace aren't necessarily justice Gary. In fact, I would argue that neither are necessarily just by default. Peace could be describe (and has) as the absence of opposition. How does one get to that point? Not by being just. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, every day would be Christmas. The winner calls the tune and it's like that in almost every conflict. It just is Gary.

Gary said...

Right Guy, this is the example I use.

A person born in Texas in 1810 would have been a citizen of multiple nations in their lifetime.

--- A subject of the Kingdom of Spain

--- A subject of the Empire of Mexico

--- A citizen of the Republic of Mexico

--- A citizen of the Republic of Texas

--- A citizen of the United States

--- A citizen of the Confederate States of America

--- A citizen of the United States

I am not interested in the flag that may fly on the pole, but in protecting the rights of the people no matter which flag they live under.

The Right Guy said...

In our world that is the exception rather than the rule.

Gary said...

***** In our world that is the exception rather than the rule. *****

Right Guy,

A man born in 1914 in Jerusalem would have been a citizen of:

--- The Ottoman Empire

--- The British Empire

--- The Kingdom of Jordan

--- Israel

Maps always change. In 1940 the nations of Pakistan, Korea, the Ukraine, Burma, Kenya, Armenia and Indonesia did not even exist.

Countries come and go. I am about protecting the property rights of individuals to own their home, business or farm without Big Government stealing their property.

Property rights are basic old fashioned Edmund Burke conservatism.

The Right Guy said...

So

Gary said...

If you can't figure out property rights and freedom at this point then there is no hope.

Chuck said...

The guy has been offered millions of dollars for his piece of shit weed patch he calls a farm. At some point this is simply a matter of eminent domain. Buy a dictionary you pathetic tool.

Again, you're a filthy fucking liar...and a nut fuck crazy shit to boot.

Eric Dondero said...

Tom, every single poll now has Romney ahead by at least 7 to 9 points in Fla.

I think you'll have to eat your hat.

And I promise, we'll all be laughing at you post-Fla.

KN@PPSTER said...

Eric,

Laugh all you want.

I wasn't the coward calling South Carolina a "tossup" the morning of the election after shilling for Romney for ten straight days (I called it for Gingrich by 9 points; he won it by 12).

If Gingrich was 30 points up in Florida right now, you'd be calling that a "tossup," too.

You make your predictions based on what you hope will happen.

I make mine based on what I actually expect to happen.

jgeleff said...

So, why don't we just keep our nose out of it and let Israel and the Pali's fight it out? What's the fucking difference?

ajnock1976 said...

In FL, Santorum is in last place. Gingrich trails Romney. Paul is in a solid third place. This despite not campaigning here.

As for the main thread: some 2013 Jews and Arabs in Israel will be half each of the population.

Arabs, in Israel, however, have families like Old Testament patriarchs. Jews in Israel, except for some Orthodox folk, have children like Europeans: not replacing themselves.

Mittens gets this one right, of course. But why isn't he being hailed internet-wide this morning?

Because overall, Romney came across as annoying, especially in his exchanges with Gingrich.

Another more important reason had to do with his defense of RomneyCare. He may have had a good answer on Israel, but so what?
