Donald Trump goes against MSNBC hosts on Birth Certificate question

Trump:
"I happen to think that there's a possibility that he was not born in the United States... If that were true it would be the greatest scam in the history"

NeoCon Karl Rove blasts libertarian Republican Donald Trump over Birth Certificate stance

He's increasingly "marginalized"

From Eric Dondero:

Both Donald Trump and Karl Rove appeared on O'Reilly last night. Trump pronounced his view that Obama needs to show his birth certificate. After his appearance Rove slammed him over his stance, implying that it's a minority view within the GOP.

Via BusinessInsider.com:
"The right wing base of the Republican party, I'm part of that right wing base, is not in love with the issue of birthers. I mean, there is an element inside the Republican party, and outside the Republican party, that's fallen in love with this but the majority of Republicans and the vast majority of Americans accept is he a U.S. citizen capable of being president.

You know, the troubling thing in the interview tonight was he said as time has gone on here, over the last couple of weeks, he has become more interested and more believing in the issue. You know, when he first brought it up, he said 'of course I accept that he's a citizen. He ought to just release the, release his birth certificate.' Different tone tonight. This is a mistake. It will marginalize him and he's falling into Barack Obama's trap. Barack Obama wants Republicans to fall into this trap because he knows it discredits us with the vast majority of the American people when they do."
42% of Americans now want Obama to prove his eligibility

Yet another survey has come out showing that a majority of Americans want Obama to show his birth certificate.

From Wentzel Strategies, (via WND):
"Half of those surveyed said they believe these questions about Obama's legitimacy as president are either troubling or should be satisfied by Obama. In fact, more people want Obama to prove his legitimacy – 42 percent – than believe that the lingering questions are not valid – 32 percent," Wenzel said.

The survey showed 41.9 percent say Obama should prove his birth story, including 60.9 percent of independents, 58.6 percent of Republicans and 13.2 percent of Democrats.

Another 7.9 percent say the questions are troubling.

Only 26 percent strongly opposed the release of the records. Nearly 50 percent strongly favored release and another 17 percent said the president should release the records.
The poll was conducted March 15 - 17 with "1,095 respondents, was conducted March 15-17 and carries a confidence interval of 95 percent and a margin of error of +/- 2.93 percentage points."

Finally! A Video for Fitness Pole Dancers for Jesus in Texas

From Eric Dondero:

As regular readers of LR know, we have covered this story extensively here these past couple weeks. In fact, the wife of one of our regular readers Papa Giorgio of RPT blog (LR blog roll), is a Christian Pole Dancer herself.

Cheers Papa! This one's for you and your lovely lady.

$33 Billion the magic compromise number?

DEVELOPING...

From Eric Dondero:

The Hill and the Washington Post both reported late last night that Boehner, Cantor and House GOP leaders have reached a tentative compromise with Senate Democrats on the buget proposal and continuing resolution. They will "split the difference," between $36 billion proposed by the House GOP and $30 billion agreed to by Senate Democrats.

The compromise will most likely avoid any government shut-down.
After weeks of arguing, Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill began negotiations Wednesday on a possible budget agreement that would slash federal spending by as much as $33 billion and avert a government shutdown.

If approved, the deal would be the largest single-year budget cut in U.S. history.
Ezra Klein columnist with WaPo reports that among those items on the chopping block:
Planned Parenthood and NPR and hobble health-care reform
Still, some Tea Party-oriented Republicans in both the House and Senate, have vowed to vote against any final package that does not include deeper cuts. Originally, fiscal conservatives wanted $61 billion in overall cuts.

Wisconsin-like Bill limiting Gov. Unions passes Ohio Legislature

Kasich expected to sign

From Eric Dondero:

Wisconsin redux. Another rustbelt state has gone fiscally conservative.

From the Houston Chronicle (via AP) "Ohio Legislature passes collective bargain limits":
The Ohio Legislature has passed a bill severely limiting union rights for 350,000 public workers amid protests by several hundred demonstrators.

It now goes to Republican Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik), who's expected to sign it by the end of the week.

The Ohio Senate voted 17-16 to approve the bill Wednesday. The House earlier cleared the measure cleared on a 53-44 vote.
Ohio has the 6th largest number of public employees of all 50 states, according to Reuters.

Editor's note - This website was an early and enthusiastic supporter of Kasich for Governor.

New from Reason: The Naughty Comedy Show

"My favorite places to perform are Red States"

WARNING: SOME GRAPHIC LANGUAGE

L.A. Comedian Sam Tripoli got his inspiration from Andrew Dice Clay, Sam Kennison, and Richard Pryor, "kind of Rock 'n Roll comedy vibe."
"Like, if you go to San Francisco, and start making Obama jokes, making fun of chocolate Jesus, people get all angry, upset, cause they think you are a racist..."

"Let me tell you, some of my favorite places to perform are Red States... Texas can be a lot of fun... people go crazy."

Are you PC-Whipped?

From Eric Dondero:

New term making its rounds through the rightwing blogosphere: PC-Whipped.
1. Do you have troubles getting the words "Islamo-Fascist," "Islamist," or "Radical Islam," out of your lips?

2. Do you believe that the "Religion of Peace," actually believes in Peace?

3. Do you always put on your safety belt in your vehicle, and slap on a safety helmet for your young son or daughter before they ride their bicycle down the street, because the State says so?

4. Do you have any Al Gore movies in your DVD collection, other than ones you may have used for backyard target practice?

5. Do you believe that African-Americans should only be allowed to vote for Democrats, run for office as Democrats and support only liberal causes?

Obama way down in Quinnipiac

Lowest Approvals "ever"

From Eric Dondero:

Quinnipiac has recorded Obama's lowest approvals ever, in their latest poll numbers. He's down to just 42% approval.
American voters disapprove 48 - 42 percent of the job President Barack Obama is doing and say 50 - 41 percent he does not deserve to be re-elected in 2012, both all-time lows, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This compares to a 46 - 46 percent job approval rating and a 45 - 47 percent split on the President's re-election in a March 3 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University. In a hypothetical 2012 matchup, President Obama gets 36 percent of the vote to 37 percent for an unnamed Republican challenger.
According to Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute:
"Some reasons for his overall numbers might be that Obama receives negative ratings on his handling of the budget deficit, the economy, foreign policy, health care and energy policy."
Editor's comment - That about sums it up; Obama is failing on everything.

BLOCKBUSTER POLL RESULT!! 51% of Americans now unsure Obama Born in the USA

From Eric Dondero:

Amazing poll numbers just coming out from liberal-leaning CNN. Seems Donald Trump may be on to something. 51% of Americans now say that they are unsure whether or not Obama was indeed born in the United States.

CNN/Opinion Research Birther Survey (pdf):
Do you think Barack Obama was definitely born in the United States, probably born in the United States, probably born in another country, or definitely born in another country?
•Definitely born in U.S. 46%
•Probably born in the U.S. 26%
•Probably born in another country 15%
•Definitely born in another country 10%
"Birtherism"; fringe no more?

Editor's comment - Of course, many of us were "Birthers," before being a Birther was cool.

Small victory for Liberty in Florida Senate: Red Light Camera ban passes Committee

From Eric Dondero:

Columnist Karl Dickey of Broward County reports that SB672 to ban red light cameras passed through a Senate Committee yesterday with a vote of 4 to 2. Though, there is an important caveat; not all Republican legislators support the measure.

From the Naples News:
A bill that would effectively ban all red-light running cameras in Florida – reversing a law passed just last year – cleared its first hurdle Tuesday afternoon.

Senate Bill 672, which is sponsored by Sen. Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah [photo], squeaked through the Transportation Committee on a 4 to 2 vote. However, its chances of actually becoming law are far from assured.

At least two of the Republicans on the committee who voted for the bill said they are supportive of the cameras, and only voted to move the bill along because they thought it deserved further hearing.
Vicki Kirkland, Chair of the Libertarian Party of Florida Chair, said this morning:
"We are proud of the hundreds of our members who contacted their state legislators and members of the transportation committee to move this legislation forward. There is a growing wave of opposition to the cameras by citizens for both safety and constitutional reasons and it is inspiring to know we are having a positive impact."
Dickey adds:
The Libertarian Party of Florida does not condone drivers to run red lights at intersections and encourages local governments to make intersections safer by extending the yellow light by one second and increasing the time from red to green for cross traffic.
The Libertarian Party is urging Florida libertarians to contact their legislators. More info LPF.org

Town with Black Libertarian City Councilwoman "too white" according to the NAACP

Liberal activist group Wants 5 Towns abolished because they don't have Black elected officials

From Eric Dondero:

Apparently, black elected officials don't really count if they're members of the Libertarian Party.

From the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "Suit says 'super-majority white neighborhoods' were created":
The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus filed a lawsuit Monday against the state of Georgia seeking to dissolve the city charters of Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Milton and Chattahoochee Hills. Further, the lawmakers, joined by civil rights leader the Rev. Joseph Lowery, aim to dash any hopes of a Milton County.

Civil rights leader the Rev. Joseph Lowery is among the plaintiffs, who claim the state circumvented the typical legislative process in creating “super-majority white neighborhoods.”

The lawsuit, filed in a North Georgia U.S. District Court Monday, claims that the state circumvented the normal legislative process and set aside its own criteria when creating the “super-majority white ” cities within Fulton and DeKalb counties. The result, it argues, is to dilute minority votes in those areas, violating the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the Constitution.

“This suit is based on the idea that African Americans and other minorities can elect the people of their choice,” said Democratic State Sen. Vincent Fort.
Karen Richardson, an African-American, is one of two elected Libertarian Party members serving in Georgia on town councils.

More reactions to Delaware Hoops controversy

LR FOLLOW-UP

Background, original LR Story, March 29 "Delaware takes away the rights of Kids to play Basketball in the Street"

Funny Business column, Jane Wells, CNBC:

March Sadness: Your Tax Dollars at Work

In an era when city governments are struggling to find money to pay teachers and firefighters, policemen and paramedics, when there isn't enough money to patch potholes or keep libraries open, is this really the best use of tax dollars? It appears DelDOT scored a slam dunk for government run amok during March Madness. "March Sadness!" John McCafferty shouted as took away his pole and his pride.

From CheeseSteakswithBarkley blog:

Delaware Has Officially Become Communist Russia

This is some of the most un-American treatment of residents I’ve ever seen. Just straight pulling basketball hoops off of private property and destroying freedom & fun at the same time. They might as well take a shit on the American flag while they’re at it. This is insanity and I feel like this is a story from some second or third world country, not the grand ol’ US of A. The “snitch” needs to be exploited and reprimanded for such communist actions, like the Scarlett Letter only with a C that he has to wear everywhere.

From Boston - BarStool Sports forum (Warning: Graphic Language):

Delaware Has Turned Communist Stealing Basketball Hoops In Broad Daylight

The State of Delaware has fucking turned Communist right in our fucking face, stealing basketball hoops from crippled dudes in broad daylight! In fucking March! In the middle of fucking March Madness! I’m truly at a loss. I mean I never wish ill will on anybody but everybody who was involved in this crime needs to be stoned to death starting with the snitch.

Libertarian Party: Love to Blame blog:

Delaware saving the Kids from Basketball

Every now and again there are instances of an overly intrusive government that defy logic and demand greater context. [The] video is an interview with a resident of a Delaware town concerning the removal of basketball hoops in his neighborhood. Why the Delaware Department of Transportation is seizing private property is beyond me.

From Eric Dondero:

A photo of the controverseial mural at the Maine Department of Labor is now available (via Google Images). Tea Party/Libertarian Republican Governor Paul LePage ordered the mural removed weeks after he took office in January.

In addition to a Communist Mao-like figure, in the background of one panel, a slashed 'A' for Anarchy can be seen.

Amercianist Herman Cain vs. the Radicals at CAIR

by Clifford F. Thies

From Politico:
Herman Cain has drawn fire from a Muslim advocacy group after he slammed Sharia law and the spread of the Muslim faith in America.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) accused Cain of "bigoted speech" after the Atlanta businessman told a blogger that he would not appoint a Muslim to his cabinet or as a federal judge if
elected president.

Asked whether there would be a place for a Muslim appointee in Cain's administration, Cain flatly said "No."
For the CAIR, Herman Cain is a bigot because he says he would not appoint a Muslim to the cabinet if he were to be elected President.

And, what about the genocide occurring in majority Muslim countries against Christians and other religious minorities, what do we call that? What's fair is fair. If "not appoint" is such an awful thing, what about behead, stone, assassinate, and bomb? Having a double-standard, whereby any shortcoming of a non-Muslim is condemned and there is no cooperation with law enforcement against terrorism perpetrated by Muslims is not conducive to mutual dialogue and respect. I'll speak as a Christian on this point. A Christian is to correct a brother with lovingkindness. Correcting another "with the edge of a sword" may be how Muslims are supposed to correct their co-religionists, but when you're in a majority Christian country, it is proper that you abide by the manners of that place.

We, Libertarian Republicans, have repeatedly called on CAIR to actually do something to stop the hate, and what do they do? They deny that there even is hate emanating from within the Muslim community and repeatedly attack non-Muslims for the awful crime of misspeaking. This "see no evil" attitude, which is how many Muslims interpret Sharia law, undermines opportunity for dialogue. It reinforces "us-them" thinking. Either CAIR is so culturally insensitive as to be unaware that they are contributing to the stereotyping they condemn, or else attacking non-Muslims for minor offenses serves their purposes in some way.

During the years that George W. Bush was president, we were happy to point to his appointment of Zalmay Khalilzad as Ambassador to the U.N., the first Muslim to hold cabinet rank in the country's history. Ambassador Khalizad is one of the world's leading Muslim neo-conservatives, which could be defined as a commitment in the ability of free markets and open societies to transform the world, changing the choices that we will have in the future, enabling us or perhaps enabling our children to live in peace, free trade and cultural exchange. (Of course, another definition of neo-conservative is a willingness to use force to bring about regime change, something we, at Libertarian Republican, have always considered problematic.

Yes, we understand that there are times that we have to resort to the use of force; but, war-making is one thing for geopolitical strategists and another thing for the Joe's and Jane's in uniform.)

College Libertarians in New Hampshire will back a Republican

From Eric Dondero:

Some younger Libertarian Party members in New Hampshire, have decided to get involved in the Republican primary race for very practical reasons.

From TheDartmouth.com:
The College Republicans will elect their new executive board on Thursday, and those members will direct the group’s activities for the primary campaign, according to College Republicans President Richard Sunderland ’11.

College Libertarians President Joshua Schiefelbein ’14 said his group will put its support behind whichever Republican candidate best represents its positions, placing particular emphasis on decreasing government intervention in social issues. The group will back one candidate as a singular group rather than encourage individual members to choose which campaigns to support.

“Our goal is not necessarily to increase visibility — it’s more to have group cohesiveness,” Schiefelbein said.

The absence of a Libertarian Party in New Hampshire means that the College Libertarians cannot connect with Libertarian politicians, he said.

Trump: Strongest words yet on Birth Certificate

Abercrombie cover-up: "I think this guy should be investigated"

From Eric Dondero:

Donald Trump released a copy of his birth certificate to reporters on Monday.

Quoted in NewsMax interview, via Sify.com "Donald Trump wants to verify Obama's birth certificate":
"Now, this guy either has a birth certificate or he doesn't," Trump said. "And I didn't think this was such a big deal, but I will tell you, it's turning out to be a very big deal because people now are calling me from all over saying, please don't give up on this issue."

Trump's insistence that he's being encouraged to continue on his birther crusade has led to what he says is the startling revelation that, "all of a sudden, a lot of facts are emerging and I'm starting to wonder myself whether or not [Obama] was born in this country."
Continued:
Trump also called for Hawaii Democratic Gov. Neil Abercrombie to be investigated for stating that he - as a friend of the president's parents - remembers Obama's birth "I think this guy should be investigated."

DELAWARE: THE BIGGEST CASE OF NANNY-STATISM OF ALL TIME!

ABSOLUTE MUST SEE!! NO HYPE

From Eric Dondero:

You will be outraged, saddened, disgusted, and revolted all at the same time.

Bureaucrats in the State of Delaware bring in Troopers, Big Machinery, and State Workers all to take away "unathorized" Basketball hoops in neighborhoods.

Delaware takes away the rights of Kids to play Basketball in the Street

"That's great use of force and money, and power today," John McCafferty shouted. "I have the freedom to speak. It's the United States -- First Amendment rights to speak my will." -- John McCafferty, Claymont, Delaware

From Eric Dondero:

According to the Wilmington News-Journal (DelawareOnline.com -"Delaware neighborhoods: Hoop screams: Couple protests pole's removal") Melissa McCafferty and her husband John fiercely fought back against DelDOT employeers, bureaucrats and State Troopers who attempted to take their basketball pole and hoop away. The pole is technically on public property and overhangs into the street. That was more than enough for DelDOT to bring in the big machinery to take it away.

But not before Melissa McCafferty climbed up on the pole and vowed to "stay all day," to save the hoops for neighborhood kids.

Del-DOT and the Troopers backed down. But they came back later in the day with reinforcements. They threatened the McCaffertys with arrest if they interfered.

Initially, one police car was sent to assist DelDOT workers. Three or four more were called in for backup when they came across a stubborn Melissa McCafferty sitting on top of the basketball hoop.
"We were simply there to try to talk her into coming down off the pole," said police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale.

McCafferty's husband, John, planned to file for an injunction in Chancery Court to prevent DelDOT from coming back for the hoop. He didn't do it soon enough.

Hours later, DelDOT and police returned to finish the job, warning they would arrest McCafferty if she tried to climb the pole again. The McCaffertys protested from their front lawn in a chaotic scene that was recorded by a News Journal videographer. It was too late.
As the truck pulled away with the McCafferty's pole, they chanted:
"DelDOT HATES KIDS! DelDOT HATES KIDS!"
One sports blog - With Leather - has already dubbed Delaware "The Worst State," over the incident.
This barely-sports-related story out of Delaware kinda left a bitter taste in my mouth. State troopers showed up at a guy’s driveway recently, not because he was beating his wife or cooking meth or ripping the tags off his mattresses, but because he had a basketball hoop in front of his house.
And then there's this headline from Headblitz.com:
"Delaware Town Decides They Hate Basketball Hoops"
Note - Delaware has large majorities of Democrats in both the State House and Senate. All statewide offices, Treasurer, Sec. of State, Lt. Governor, et.al., are held by Democrats. The Governor is Jack Markel, a Democrat, who also happens to serve as Chairman of the national Democrat Governor's Election Committee.

Muslim Immigrants in Greece increasingly Violent

Greeks to construct a Wall at Turkish border?

From Eric Dondero:

Increasing number of Muslim migrants from Turkey, Afghanistan, and Iraq have been coming to Greece in recent years to seek work. Now they are rioting for better living conditions and more government assistance.

From RiaNovosti "Immigration as Conquest" Feb 3:
The recent developments in the Mediterranean gave a sense of urgency to the immigration discourse. Italy's La Repubblica wrote that at the moment most of the immigrants fleeing their countries in search of better living conditions reach the EU by crossing the border between Greece and Turkey.

Some 80% of the 34,000 illegal immigrants were intercepted at the border between Turkey and Greece in July-September, 2010. Most of the people were Afghans, Iraqis, and Somalians... Atop of the ordinary EU measures, the Greek government is considering the construction of a protective wall like the much-criticized one built at the US-Mexican border.
And Socialists in Greece may be assisting the Muslim immigrants.

More from the International Analyst Network, "The European Islamist labyrinth":
in Italy, France and increasingly in Greece... leftists are actively collaborating with Islamists not in an ad hoc basis, but by establishing common political platforms and exchanging information, resources and ideological arguments.

Gays getting pushed out of East London by Muslims

From Eric Dondero:

With the influx of Muslim immigrants into London, formerly open and tolerant neighborhoods, are becomming centers of intolerance.

From Bruce Bawer, PJ Media (via IBL):
In February the East End, a neighborhood where many gays live but that is fast becoming a Muslim enclave, began being papered with stickers. They depicted a rainbow flag placed within a black circle and crossed out by a diagonal black line on which were printed the words “Gay free zone.” And they featured two quotations from the Koran. One of them read: “Arise and warn.” The other: “And fear Allah; verily Allah is severe in punishment.”

The sentiments expressed on those stickers are widespread among Muslims in the East End, and indeed among Muslims throughout London, Britain, and Europe generally.

It’s no coincidence that as the East End has become more Muslim, the number of gay-bashings has risen sharply and steadily.
Note - Bruce Bawer is the Author of "While the West Slept: The Rise of Radical Islam in Western Europe." He is a former Western European correspondent for the NY Times based in the Netherlands. He is also a gay rights activist, and self-described "libertarian."

The list grows of potential corporate sites for Caterpillar outside of Illinois

Wisconsin, Indiana, South Dakota, Nebraska, and even New Jersey?

From Eric Dondero:

Doug Olberhelman, CEO of Caterpillar quoted at Pantagraph.com:
"I have been called, 'cornered' in meetings and 'wined and dined' -- the heat is on."
Olberhelman recently wrote a letter to Illinois Governor Pat Quinn:
"I want to stay here. But as the leader of this business, I have to do what's right for Caterpillar when making decisions about where to invest...

The direction that this state is headed in is not favorable to business and I'd like to work with you to change that."
Illinois raised its income tax by over 60% in January.

Texts of letters from some of the contenders have been released:
"I stand ready to help convince you to relocate or expand in the fiscally conservative, low-tax Lone Star State," wrote Texas Gov. Rick Perry in a Jan. 24 letter.

"I encourage you to consider South Dakota as a place for your business to grow and prosper," noted J. Pat Costello, secretary of the South Dakota governor's economic development office.

Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman wrote in February to say, "In Nebraska, we balance our budget by controlling spending, not by raising taxes."

Democrat-controlled City of Los Angeles to force closure of 60 Marijuana Stores

Closures ordered by Mayor Villaraigosa

From the LA Times "Dozens more L.A. medical marijuana dispensaries ordered immediately closed" Marchc 26:
Los Angeles city officials have widened their campaign against illegal medical marijuana dispensaries, warning an additional 60 stores that they must shut down immediately.

The new letters went out earlier this week about two weeks after the city attorney's office notified the operators and landlords of another 141 pot shops that they must close. The letters warn that the city could sue violators, seek financial penalties and “padlock the property.”

Asha Greenberg [is] the assistant city attorney... the city attorney’s office will work with the police department to gather evidence that can be used in court proceedings to shut them down...
From KPCC News, "LA Mayor Villaraigosa signs medical marijuana shop law" Feb. 3:
The mayor of Los Angeles has signed an ordinance that will close hundreds of medical marijuana shops and banish the rest to industrial areas.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed the ordinance Wednesday, a week and a day after the city council approved the new law.

KKK Democrat for Mayor in Florida

From Eric Dondero:

John Paul Rogers is an elected county commissioner in Lake Wales, Florida. He has thrown his hat into the ring for City Mayor.

According to RightNetwork Rogers party affiliation is 'D'.
Democrat John Paul Rogers was the head of the United Klans of America, an organization that was one of the most violent branches of the KKK.
But Rogers was also an active member of the Ku-Klux-Klan 30 years ago.

From WTSP Radio Tampa/St. Pete:
Retired University of South Florida Professor Darryl Paulson, an expert on the Klan, says Rogers was the head of the organization in Florida that was part of one of the largest and one of the most violent branches of the KKK, The United Klans of America.
As of yet, there's been no comment or press release on Rogers's candidacy from the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Geraldine Ferraro passes away at 75

A sensible Centrist-leaning Democrat

by Clifford F. Thies

It's hard to believe that Ms Ferraro has died because, until recently, she was looking so good as a Fox News commentator, excuse me, as a Fox Babe. She was sharp, partisan in a polite way, and optimistic. Always a smile. Who knew she would soon succumb to cancer? Her claim to fame is that she was the first major party candidate for Vice President of the United States.

On hearing of her death, Sarah Palin, the second major party candidate for Vice President, said this, “The open doors [Geraldine Ferraro] has provided all women [is] pretty profound and outstanding. [I am] so proud to have known her.” Of course, that's just like Sarah, acknowledging those who have opened the doors before her. In 2008, in accepting Senator McCain's naming her as his choice for Vice President, she acknowledged the both Geraldine Ferraro and Hillary Clinton.

In 2008, it occurred to me that it had been 24 years since a woman had been on a major party ticket. 24 years. With a little more than half of the population being female, this seemed strange. At this time, among the four largest democracies of the world (Brazil, India, Indonesia and the U.S.), we are the only one to not have had a female head of government. In my tracking of elections around the world for this website, it is routine, nowadays, for women to be in the mix of candidates for head of government.

Growing gender equality is changing things in ways that might have been viewed as surprising one or two generations ago. The "feminization" that is taking place is not exactly what had been anticipated. Instead of merely bringing the politics "of the heart" to the fore, we see, in the center-right parties of the world, the emergance of women who embrace the politics "of the brain," to include fiscal responsibility, law enforcement and national defense, and "tough love" domestic policy. We are also seeing the legitimization of beauty, fashion and female charm in the world of politics (as well as in the world of business).

Ms Ferraro said she had hoped to live to see the day a women is elected President of the United States. Do you think she had Sarah Palin in mind?

Anti-Capitalist Anarchist Violence in London, March 26

From Eric Dondero:

Violent scenes from yesterday's protests across London. Black-masked Anarchists smash windows, splash paint on police and emergency vehicles, and grafitti bank buildings, and department stores.

See a second video of flares, fires set, and police being harrassed. Includes a large banner condemning Margaret Thatcher.

London: 300,000 Leftists, Anarchists, Unionists, Government Workers protest proposed Budget Cuts

Shades of Madison, Wisconsin?

From Eric Dondero:

An estimated 250,000 to 300,000 Leftists marched on London yesterday, demanding a halt to Prime Minister David Cameron's proposed budget cuts and lay-offs of state workers.

From ibtimes.com "Tens of thousands march in London to protest budget cuts":
The Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition led by Prime Minister David Cameron plans spending cuts of about $131-billion over the next five years, including slashing about 300,000 public sector jobs.

Brendan Barber, the general secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC)...
"We are here to send a message to the government... We will fight the savage cuts and we will not let them destroy peoples' services, jobs and lives."
From AHN:
The largest protest in London since the beginning of the invasion of Iraq in 2003 turned violent Saturday when anarchists attacked what they considered symbols of capitalism, including shops and a luxury hotel.

Hundreds of thousands of mostly peaceful demonstrators converged on Hyde Park to protest major budget cuts that could result in about 300,000 public sector jobs lost by 2015. The protests were organized by the Trade Union Congress.

But while the demonstrators marched, hundreds of anarchists with their faces covered went on the offensive, smashing store windows, clashing with police and taking over the tony department store Fortnum and Mason near Piccadilly Circus.

Others defaced statues with spray paint. Police were attacked with objects including paint containers and light bulbs filled with ammonia. More than 80 people were injured during the riots, including about 31 police officers.
The UK Telegraph reports that the rioting was done by:
“anarchists, squatters, student militants, environmental activists and radical academics.”
The New Normal blog comments:
That’s right, the same sort of riffraff who trashed Madison, WI.

Egyptian Muslims burn down apartment of Prostitutes

Cut off the Ear of the Christian Apt. building Owner

From Eric Dondero:

Islamists in the central Egyptian town of Qena, went on a rampage last Sunday, burning down an apartment building where two prostitutes lived. They were not at the residence at the time. When the owner tried to save his building, the Muslim protesters turned on him, beating and kicking him. Then they cut off his ear, to "teach [him] a lesson." From AINA "Muslims Attack Christian in Egypt, Cut Off His Ear":
On Sunday, March 20 [Ayman Anwar] Mitri was informed by a friend via a phone call at 4 AM that the flat where the Muslim sisters lived was on fire; he went to the flat. While waiting in the torched flat a Muslim named Alaa el Sunni came and berated him for renting his flat to prostitutes. "I tried to calm him down," said Mr. Mitri, "and told him I knew nothing about the two women since they came through an agent." Alaa suggested they would go somewhere quiet to clear the misunderstanding. They went to the flat of Mr. Mitri's friend Khaled, a policeman, where 12 Muslims were waiting for him. They started beating him and saying "We will teach you a lesson, Christian" and "This serves your right for renting your property to prostitutes."
They claimed they were doing it in accordance with Sharia Law.

AINA has a horrific photo of the the victim with his ear cut off.

Euro-Libertarian Geert Wilders - Multicultural Left actively assisting the Rise of Islamism across Europe

Muslim ideology spreading at a "rapid pace"

Excerpt from a speech by Dutch Party of Freedom leader Geert Wilders, March 25, 2011, at the Annual Lecture of the Magna Carta Foundation in Rome, Italy (via American Thinker):
Islam is a totalitarian ideology. Islamic Shariah law supervises every detail of life. Islam is not compatible with our Western way of life. Islam is a threat to our values. Respect for people who think otherwise, the equality of men and women, the equality of homosexuals and heterosexuals, respect for Christians, Jews, unbelievers and apostates, the separation of church and state, freedom of speech, they are all under pressure because of islamization.

Europe is islamizing at a rapid pace. Many European cities have large islamic concentrations. In some neighbourhoods, Islamic regulations are already being enforced. Women's rights are being trampled. We are confronted with headscarves and burqa's, polygamy, female genital mutilation, honour-killings. "In each one of our cities" says Oriana Fallaci, "there is a second city, a state within the state, a government within the government. A Muslim city, a city ruled by the Koran." - End of quote.

Ladies and gentlemen, make no mistake: The multiculturalist Left is facilitating islamization. Leftist multiculturalists are cheering for every new shariah bank, for every new islamic school, for every new mosque. Multiculturalists consider Islam as being equal to our own culture. Shariah law or democracy? Islam or freedom? It doesn't really matter to them. But it does matter to us. The entire leftist elite is guilty of practising cultural relativism. Universities, churches, trade unions, the media, politicians. They are all betraying our hard-won liberties.

Obama's NCAA picks: The Last shall be First - OR - The Last 1 Standing?

VCU comes out of nowhere

by Clifford F. Thies

Meanwhile, over in the NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Tournament, President Obama's pick for national champion looks to be in the cat bird seat. With the Kentucky Wildcats knocking off the #1 1-seed Ohio State Buckeyes, the Kansas Jayhawks are now the only remaining 1-seed in the tournament. They are "The last 1 standing." But, before they can cut down the net, they're going to have to get past VCU, one of the last four teams to be invited to the dance, and maybe the very last team. Most people don't even know the mascot of this team, or even if they have a mascot. And, many people don't know what the initials "VCU" stand for either. But, catapulted by ESPN commentator Jay Bilas' disrepect, who said it was a "travestry" that VCU was allowed into the tournament, the Billygoats or Leprechauns or Black
Glob or whatever they are, have been on a tear. Lead by somebody, they have knocked off one after another higher-seeded team, and now are one win away from the Final Four. Congra-d-ulations to VCU of the great state of Virginia, or maybe Vermont, for getting this far. You may fulfill the prophesy that the Last shall be First.

Farrahkan: Obama goes from being the Messiah to being a Jew

by Clifford F. Thies

Minister Louis Farrahkan of the Nation of Islam who, in 2008, proclaimed Barack H. Obama to be the Messiah, is now calling Obama our country's first Jewish President, along with defending Gaddafi. The United States, he says, is not populated by human beings, our country is filled "with beasts." Dictators aren't a bad thing, "your mothers and fathers," speaking to a black audience, were dictators. God himself rose up Gaddafi in Libya and Assad in Syria. And, dictators send tanks and planes to kill their people, just like parents discipline their children. Democracy, you see, is an invention of white people, also known as beasts. Democracy's "a trick."

We know from history that calling people "Jews" is the prelude to genocide; but, as for this Messiah versus Jew thing, according to the Christians of the world, the Messiah was a Jew.

North Dakota Property Tax foes hand in 28,000 signatures

From Eric Dondero:

Yesterday in Bismark, a coalition of taxpayer rights advocates handed in approximately 28,0000 signatures to the Secretary of State's Office to qualify a ballot measure to completely abolish property taxes.

From the AP (via The Republic) "Amendment would abolish ND property taxes, order Legislature to figure out new revenue plan":
BISMARCK, N.D. — Backers of a constitutional amendment to abolish North Dakota property taxes believe they have enough petition signatures to put the idea on the ballot, even though the number they thought they needed has risen.

The proposed amendment's supporters delivered almost 1,000 petitions, bearing what they said were more than 27,800 names, to Secretary of State Al Jaeger's office Friday.

Jaeger has until April 29 to review the documents and determine whether there are enough names to qualify for the ballot. If the signature goal is met, the amendment would go to a statewide vote in June 2012.
The coalition of activists included, the Libertarian Party of ND, Taxpayer Rights groups, Tea Party groups based in Williston and Grand Forks, Christian Right conservatives, and a cadre of stridently individualist Cowboy and Bikers from Valley City.
"It's a new idea. It's something a lot of people hadn't even considered until we put it in front of them," said Charlene Nelson, of Casselton, who is chairwoman of the initiative campaign.
The Amendment if passed would force the legislators in Bismark to use other revenue sources, rather than property taxes. But the State currently has an approximate $2.6 billion budget surplus, largely as a result of oil revenues from taxes on oil production in northwestern ND.

Tuesday is the final deadline for petition signatures to be handed in. And the taxpayer coalition hopes to have over 30,000 for the final turn-in.

Independent-Libertarian Kristin Davis for NYC Mayor?

Release...

Friday March 25th

EX-MADAM WILL RUN FOR MAYOR IF SPITZER THROWS HIS BLACK SOCKS IN THE RING

To mark the third anniversary of her arrest Ex-Madam Kristin Davis who supplied high priced call girls for former Governor Eliot Spitzer said she will jump in the 2013 New York City Mayor's Race if the former Governor, now a CNN talk show host makes a bid.

Davis filed 18,000 signatures to get on the ballot last year, participated in the televised debate between Democrat Andrew Cuomo and Republican Carl Paladino last year and got nearly 30,000 votes in the race for Governor running on a libertarian platform.

"If Spitzer throws his black socks in the ring I may have to throw in my lacy brassiere" said Davis who once ran the most successful high end escort service in US history.

"I had pretty much decided to focus on the sex trafficking issue and not to run for public office again " said Davis " I am working to take the GOLD program, put forward by an advocacy group in Miami (http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/03/19/2124399/a-walk-on-the-seamy-side-to-help.html) to combat sex trafficking nationwide" . Davis kicked off Hope House, a New York based non profit to fight the conscription of women into prostitution last month.

"The women who worked for me chose to be sex workers" said Davis " 80 % of the women working as escorts are doing so against their will" said Davis "Until prostitution is decriminalized we must provide an escape from this life for thousands of young women"

"Running for Governor was great fun and very educational but I decided to pursue advocacy activity and some entrepreneurial efforts in legal industries. " said the ex Hedge Fund Vice president. "The one thing that could probably get me off the bench is a Mayor candidacy by Eliot Spitzer. I'd have to look at it. The opportunity to expose the inequality in our Justice system may be too great"

Tea Party Smoking Ban foe to run for Kentucky Sec. of State

From Eric Dondero:

Ken Moellman, a friend of this website, has announced his intentions to run for Kentucky Secretary of State. (The LPKY still needs to qualify for the ballot by collecting over 10,000 signatures.)

Moellman is the immediate past Chair of the Libertarian Party of Kentucky. He is head of a local Tea Party chapter in northern KY. He has also been the most vocal opponent and organizer against a proposed smoking ban for Newport and northern KY-area bars and restaurants. Finally, Moellman was a staunch supporter of Rand Paul for US Senate.

We here at Libertarian Republican wish Ken all the best of success. Although, there is a Republican in the race. (So, we cannot endorse him.) The seat is currently held by a Democrat.

Libertarian Party of Indiana spoofed?

From Eric Dondero:

A curious development out of the Hoosier State. It seems for some reason, internet hoaxers pulled a fast one on the Libertarian Party of Indiana, for reasons unknown. A Republican State Senator was also apparently victimized.

From WBIX.com:
The Libertarian Party of Indiana wants answers after a being a victim of a hoax email.

Executive Director Chris Spangle says they received the email on February 9, from whom they believed was Republican State Senator Connie Lawson.

Spangle says the email was about the party's opposition to the gay marriage constitutional ban and threatened if they didn't change their opinion on the issue, that "structural changes would be made."
The OhioRepublic blogspot reports:
The Indiana Libertarian and Republican Parties are co-operating in the investigation.

It's official! Gary Johnson to announce in late April

Marijuana Legalization still at the top of his Agenda

From Eric Dondero:

Fox News is reporting that libertarian Republican former Governor Gary Johnson will announce his candidacy for president sometime in late April. He will skip the traditional Exploratory Committee route, and go straight to New Hampshire.
Fox News has learned the former Governor of New Mexico will announce his candidacy, for President of the United States in late April. Johnson insiders say he will bypass the exploratory stage, announce his candidacy and immediately travel to New Hampshire sometime after tax day, April 15.

Strategists say his libertarian approach to GOP politics may prove very popular in the Granite State, whose motto is "Live Free or Die."
And he's not backing down on his drug war stance.
He does not see his stand on issues like marijuana legalization as detriments to a potential GOP nominee. "It's just one in a series of cost-benefits. What are we spending our money on and what are we getting for the money we're spending. Half of the money we're spending on the courts and law enforcement and prisons is drug related. And what are we getting for that? Well, we're arresting 1.8-million people a year in this country, which is just staggering when you considering the population of New Mexico is 1.8-million."

Didn't he say, "Not One American Boot?"

by Clifford F. Thies

Backing up his promise that "Not one American boot could touch one grain of Libyan sand", President Obama has ordered 4,000 Marines and sailors of the Bataan Amphibious Group and the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit into the region.

That's 8,000 boots, which is definitely "not one". Let's face, you're not going to win a war sending in one cripple.

The USS Bataan is an amphibious assault ship, with a wide range of capabilities, humanitarian and military. When deployed along with super carriers, it will usually assume the status of an auxiliary carrier, launching and receiving helipcopters in conjunction with submarine patrol and search and rescure missions. It can also operate on its own, in support of projection of force missions, in which case it may launch and receive harrier warplanes as well as helicopters.

The 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit is a multi-deminensional force consisting of a reinforced battalion of marines, a combat airlift unit. and a combat support unit.

When these units join the force being assembled in the Mediterranean, they will give the commander the capability to conduct seach and rescue missions, as in the case of a downed pilot, as well as a limited ability to secure a beachead or an inland objective.

The Turks join the coalition of the unwilling

It was written in their Qu'ran, that all nations which had not acknowledged the Prophet were sinners, whom it was the right and duty of the faithful to plunder and enslave; and that every Muslim who was slain in this warfare was sure to go to paradise. He said, also, that the man who was the first to board a vessel had one slave over and above his share, and that when they sprang to the deck of an enemy's ship, every sailor held a dagger in each hand and a third in his mouth; which usually struck such terror into the foe that they cried out for quarter at once -- Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja to Thomas Jefferson and John Adams in London, 1885 (original doc. mem.loc)

by Clifford F. Thies

The parliament of Turkey approved that country's participation in NATO's blockade of arms shipments and humanitarian efforts in the war-torn country of Lybia. A total of six ships, a submarine, four frigates and an auxiliary ship, will join the international task force.

Unilke the United States, in Turkey, the head of government actually has to obtain authorization to use force when no imminent threat to the nation is involved.

In this country, according to people such as Joe The Constitutional Scholar Biden, Professor of Constitutional Law Barack Obama, and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Hilliary Clinton, this is only illegal nowadays when a Republican is president. Iniating the use of force is tough enough for any democratic country, which is a very good thing, but is particularly sensitive when two majority Muslim country are involved.

We appreciate the concern expressed by the prime minister of Turkey, that the Turks are not willing to "point a gun" at the people of Libya. But, it is a crime for a government to order police and military forces to use lethal force against crowds of peaceful protestors, no less to bomb them using tanks and warplanes, and, at some point, we have to figure out a way to arrest those who engage in such acts.

We, at Libertarian Republican, salute our friend and allyTurkey, who first joined with us in North Africa in what we call the Second Barbary Coast War
