If you choose to sponge off the Taxpayer and not work, stay off the drugsFrom Eric Dondero:
You might call this the perfect combination of libertarian and conservative. Florida Governor Rick Scott signed into law a bill that would require any new applicants for welfare checks must pass a drug screening test.
Said Scott (via CBS Miami):
“While there are certainly legitimate needs for public assistance, it is unfair for Florida taxpayers to subsidize drug addiction,” Governor Scott said. “This new law will encourage personal accountability and will help to prevent the misuse of tax dollars.”
8 Bloviations:
Oh, that's going to hurt! They should have done this decades ago. Hmm, since voting isn't actually a right (as it can be suspended by a felony conviction, among other reasons, while real rights cannot quite be suspended, mostly, sort of), perhaps drug testing for voting would be another thing. I know, too difficult and costly (really). Just a dream. Academics would come unglued!
I happily voted for Rick Scott & am dismayed by his slide in the polls. But then again it's early in his term & he's having to clean up Charlie "turncoat" Crist's mess.
It's a wonder: Charlie Crist was on the short list to be McCain's running mate. When he announced he was running for the US Senate the GOP Senate Campaign committee endorsed him even though Marco Rubio had announced.
The national GOP was in Crist's corner until he bolted the GOP.
Crist was on McCain's short list: but McCain was angling to be John Kerry's running mate in 2004.
We have these Benedict Arnold Republicans who get the national GOP nod. Scott vetoed almost 10% of the state budget and Florida's unemployment rate is finally getting better.
But national GOP yearns for the traitors.

Let me see if I can clarify things a bit:
People in chronic pain chronically take pain relievers.
We call this "addiction".
Addicts (those in pain) must be punished.
This is called Christian civilization.
Well of course you are going to want evidence for my outrages.
The NIDA says: Addiction Is A Genetic Disease
Round Pegs In Round Holes
Is Addiction Real?
Female heroin users are victims of sexual assault: Heroin
PTSD and the Endocannabinoid System
And just in case you are weak in economics: The Drug War as a Socialist Enterprise by Milton Friedman
Yes, and some people believe in fairies and unicorns too. If you didn't know, psychology and psychiatry have been completely taken over by leftists. Their "science" is meaningless. They are currently trying to make it so that no one can be held accountable or found guilty of anything. Believe as you will. But my guess is you know better but have chosen the easy path.
You guys realize that most health food stores sell "flush" kits that allow people to beat drug screening?
I'm told these kits work, at least for pot smokers, which is the most popular illicit drug.
Doom,
I have actually presented evidence (from the NIDA no less - among others).
What have you got? Assertions?
Let me explain it to you again:
People in chronic pain chronically take pain relievers.
We call this "addiction".
Addicts (those in pain) must be punished.
This is called Christian civilization.

You might want to study up on the amygdala and its relationship to drug taking. To start.
Then you can look up the CB1 receptor.
Anti-depressants and brain cell growth.
"heroin child abuse" is a good set of words to search on.
You might also want to consider all this with respect to receptors in the brain.
PTSD Pot Alcohol & Substance Abuse

Doctors know this. A few of them are talking: A well known secret
So the "libertarian" solution to the welfare state is to keep it and make it even more expensive and intrusive?
Wow.
A week before this thing goes into effect, there will be fliers on every low-income-housing door for "cleaning kits."
On the morning it goes into effect, there will be entrepreneurs peddling vials of warm piss outside the testing facilities.
One part you left out is that the welfare applicants get reimbursed with taxpayer money if they "pass" the drug tests.
All Scott did was add $25 or so per welfare recipient to the state's spending, to appease the prohibitionists.
