Before it was Cool... sort of like Country MusicFrom Eric Dondero:
Businessman John Raese is locked in a tight race with Governor Joe Manchin for the open Senate seat from West Virginia. The latest poll has him 3 points ahead. And it is the WV seat that could prove to be the magic 50 for the GOP.
In a recent interview with CNN's Dana Bash, Raese made a statement sure to please libertarians and other fiscal conservatives.
From CNN (via HotAir Pundit):
Raese: I was a West Virginia conservative, before it was popular. I always kid the tea party, they're a little be left of me...Watch the video at CNN.
Dana Bash: So you were the Tea Party before Tea Party was cool?
Raese: Well, that's exactly right. Sort of like Country music...
5 Bloviations:
Democrat Joe Manchin got an "A" from CATO. I wonder how Raese would vote differently. I've heard that Democrats in Kentucky and West Virginia are not like Democrats elsewhere.
Are we going to have a handicapping of Senate and House votes Eric?

Alan, can you be more specific? Are you talking election night coverage??
Thane, I don't fully trust that Cato rating deal. Mostly good. But I fear they go out of their way to appear bi-partisan, and thus find a Democrat or two to put up at the top. I think a real reflection of Gov's from a libertarian view would show unanimous Republicans scoring at the top, and zero Dems.
Eric, the scorecard is 32 pages long and gives a fair explanation of why Manchin got the score he did.
I'd say the Governors likely got the score they received by earning it. Arizona Governor Brewer got a 40/"D" by earning it. I don't think Cato has any reason to bias in favor or against Republicans.
