BREAKING NEWS!!From Eric Dondero:
Republican US Senator Lisa Murkowski had a private meeting with Libertarian Party Senate nominee David Haase this morning at an un-disclosed location in Anchorage. They met to discuss options on the US Senate race. Murkowski, who lost the GOP nomination two weeks ago to Tea Party favorite Joe Miller of Fairbanks, is now forced to decide whether she wants to continue her campaign. Her options are limited to securing the Libertarian Party line, or running as a write-in. Murkowski and friends of her campaign have not been shy in approaching Libertarian Party leaders to explore the Party's ballot line option.
Scott Kohlhaas, Libertarian Party of Alaska Chair and a candidate for State House, told LR that at this juncture he "didn't think it would happen." But meetings and frank discussions are continuing to be held.
Haase is an advocate of what's been called the "People's Bail-out." Essentially, it would federalize the Federal Reserve, and allow revenues to be used to help pay-off debt for entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare.
Just breaking from Politico.com "Murkowski, Haase talk ballot switch":

Nonetheless, Murkowski and Haase discussed the matter — and it appears the senator made some efforts to discuss some of her more Libertarian-leaning positions during the meeting.Congressman Ron Paul was the key sponsor of that legislation on the House side. Paul has long-backed a federal currency backed by gold, and abolishment of the Federal Reserve board.
Haase recalled that Murkowski told him that she has “reservations” about the Federal Reserve — a pet issue for the Libertarian nominee — and reminded him that she supported an amendment this year that would have called for an audit of the country’s central banking system.
Libertarian Republican has learned that as a result of him suddenly being in the national spotlight, Haase has been having serious conversations with national libertarians concerned about the monetary issue, including at least one former staffer for US Congressman Ron Paul.
While Haase is a "Ron Paul libertarian" on the domestic agenda, he is anything but, on foreign policy. In June he was one of only 6 Libertarians to attend a meeting of the Libertarian Defense Caucus, at the Libertarian Party national convention in St. Louis. From his campaign website:
We are winning on the Iraq front let's not give up now, In world war two we first landed on the beaches of Africa that were defended by the French they had to be taken out of the equation as did Sadam Husein and we cannot put him back.Additionally, Haase who leans more towards the conservative wing of the Libertarian Party, has often expressed his personal admiration for Frank and Lisa Murkowski.
6 Bloviations:
The Alaska libertarians are stupid. If they do this, they will have no credibility and should just shut their doors. If you go on ADN (Alaska newspaper) and read the comments, everyone on there believes, for better or worse, that a vote for Murkowski is a vote to protect their precious beloved pork. There is no doubt in their minds. This is the antithesis of what a libertarian stands for.
This is would be prostitution in its clearest form. The Alaskan Libertarians should spread them now and name their price because Murkowski is telling them whatever they want to hear with her pillow talk. She won't even remember their names tomorrow.
It makes me ashamed to be a Libertarian.
Anonymous (why didn't you post under your own name?), as it says EXPLICITLY in the article, the chances of the ALP doing this are slim to none.
Kohlhaas has said no til he's blue in the face. Tell those commenters at ADN to calm down. It ain't happening.
Sorry Eric, I didn't post under my own name because I couldn't figure out how.
I have a JS-kits and a Blogger account but none listed. It was just easier to hit anonymous.
I'll spread the word at ADN but they are pretty convinced that whether they support pork or they hate it, Murkowski will protect it and keep it flowing.
Dude, just write in your name at the end of your post.
I just checked ADN. The comments are all over the place.
Hey Anon, it ain't too difficult to figure out.
