Channeling the Ghosts of Greatness pastFrom Cliff Thies:
With 99 percent of the votes counted, Tea Party candidate Joe Miller has upset Lisa Murkowski for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate from Alaska.
Sarah the Impaler has struck again. She goes after the corrupt Republican establishment and then she goes after their children!!!!
The corrupt Republican establishment in Alaska famously pursued the Bridge to a Democratic Majority, until John McCain in the U.S. Senate put a spotlight on the deal and Sarah Palin as Governor drove a stake into its heart.
Subsequently, the pork-barrel Senator associated with the Bridge to Socialism was convicted in federal court on corruption charges and his seat in the Senate was turned over to the dark side. Thus, the 60th and deciding vote on nationalized medicine came from Alaska, one of the most Republican states in the union.
And, where even the corrupt, pork-barrel, establishment Republicans hesitated to go, the dark side rushed in, giving us the Porkulus and trillions and trillions of dollars in deficit-spending, putting us at the risk of national bankruptcy.
As to whether it is even possible to avoid the impending disaster to which our depressed economy might merely be prelude, there is no telling. But, one thing's for sure, the Tea Party will fight on no matter the odds. As for the Republicans who aren't getting with the program, we might not beat you every time, but you cannot know where we will beat you. None of you are safe.
18 Bloviations:
Yes, as time goes by a greater number of Republican's are drifting back toward the libertarian principles that made our country great in the first place. It's such a shame the process is so darn painfully slow and had to start in remote places like Alaska!
Amen, Cliff. Nicely said.
About the impending disaster... Is it possible that the economy's stability is an expression of aggregate confidence that these DC clowns are on their way out? Surely investors and business people everywhere are watching this - some betting against the future, like Soros against the Pound - but many, many others betting long-term positive. Dunno - intuition tells me that if the Tea Party were to collapse as an idea, the investors would follow. Thing is, I'm not an economist, just a schlub blogger.
Palin's other candidate won last night also, John McCain......funny you did not mentioned that Eric or are you afraid to piss off your Tea Party folks who were backing Hayworth
Dave,
So slow, dude. We got the joke last night. Had a beer, got over it.
Well, they will be running from Libertarians if they allow Murkowski to run on their ticket.
Rumor has it that Lisa is trying to get the Libertarian primary winner to step aside and have the party leadership appoint her to the ticket.
She is the complete opposite of a Libertarian, Joe Miller is far, far more Libertarian than she is. This would be a black eye for the party and set us back as serious contenders. The Libertarian party can NOT be a "rent a party"
There is only so much space on this blog. I try to highlight stories of greatest interest to Libertarian Republicans. McCain's victory is of less interest than Joe Miller's. Simple as that.
Oh, and for the record, I too supported McCain over Hayworth. J.D.'s ridiculous informercial appearance killed it for me.
Incidentally, say what you want about John McCain. But I'd remind you, he is a longstanding Veteran of the United States Navy, who spent 6 years of his life in a POW camp. For that, he deserves all of our respect.
I also supported McCain because I had issues with Hayworth and I think Sarah has had a positive impact on McCain finding his roots.
However, I am VERY concerned about Murkowski hijacking the libertarian party so she can take revenge on Miller and Palin.
Palin endorsed McCain . . . McCain the rapist of the Bill of Rights.
How is that Right-Wing Socialist hope and change working out for you guys?
Calling her "Sarah the Impaler" isn't exactly flattering. I know Thies means it as a compliment, but I doubt that Palin would see it as one. It propagates the stereotype of women in politics as "ball-busters" or witch-like. I think she deserves a lot more respect than this.
For starters, we need a genuine ball-buster in charge of cleaning up the cabinet and "special advisor" mess - male or female. Being labelled such isn't always and everywhere an epithet.
But that's not the point: Sarah the Impaler reads very much as a compliment. Vlad was infamous for racking-up victories. Palin has a number of establishment heads on her pike ready to be hoisted aloft.
The West hasn't seen anything quite like her power since Margaret Thatcher. I'm with Quin Hillyer: Sarah is displaying a lot of earned street-smarts and genuine discrimination in her choices.
Not to sound overly philogynistic, but methinks America's gals are going to be the powerhouse bloc behind the libertarian revolution. Palin, more than anyone - with the possible exception of Michele Bachmann - is capable of inspiring young men and women alike.
Eric - I hear you on our debt to McCain, and I HATE to agree with Gary - but the dude has a point. McCain's crimes against Liberty require that he retire, in honor. Not that Hayward was likely to be much better, if at all. But watch Jesse Kelly... That Marine may well retire McCain.
Palin 2012
I like McCain, my point was the Tea Party folks were making his re-election campaign defeat #1 priority because in their view he is the archtypical RINO(even though his lifetime conservative voting record is an 82% according to the ACU)
From over here it seems unlikely that the LP would endorse Murkowski, if she were dumb enough to suggest it I doubt she would achieve anything but to give them a good laugh, unless they are all stoned.
Love the image Eric, but it would have been nice if Reagan had been clinking his glass with one held by Goldwater, I feel he would have been there too.
"I think she deserves a lot more respect than this."
Bullshit. You "think" nothing of the sort.
Both McCain and Hayworth are terrible. If the Tea Party base were to get behind someone with more credibility than Hayworth we'd be say good bye to Johnny. David Nolan founder of the Libertarian party is without a doubt the best choice for senator.
Now regarding this race thank God we've finally kicked out Murkowski.
CHUCK...
It's called "taqia" - deliberate, manipulative lies. The pretense of supporting Palin is obvious, especially over the bullshit claim that "impaler" has some misogynistic aspect to it.
Chuck,
"Bullshit. You "think" nothing of the sort."
Prove it. Oh yeah, that's right. You can't.
Ran,
"It's called "taqia" - deliberate, manipulative lies."
Riiight! Dude, your paranoia is showing. The idea that women in politics are stereotyped as "ball-busters" or "man-eaters" is all a big Islamic lie, right? Seriously dude, you need psychiatric help.
