Republican-friendly Wayne Root wins seat on Libertarian National Committee

From Eric Dondero:

Culturally Republican and more mainstream leaning Libertarians now have at least one friend on the Libertarian National Committee. Family values-oriented author of "Millionaire Republican," Wayne Root lost his race for the National Chairmanship of the LP, however, he gained a spot on the coveted LNC. From a Root press release:
Wayne Allyn Root, 2008 Libertarian Vice Presidential nominee, was elected to the Libertarian National Committee on Sunday at the Libertarian National Convention in St Louis. Root was the leading vote getter- finishing first among a field of 13 candidates, including former National Chairman Bill Redpath, Founder of the Libertarian Party David Nolan, former Presidential contender Mary Ruwart, and former Superior Court Judge James Gray. Root now joins the Board of "America's Third Party" to provide leadership and management decisions through 2012.

Root said of his victory, "I am honored and humbled to have been the leading vote-getter out of a field of 13 candidates, that included the legends and celebrities of Libertarian politics. Now it's time to move quickly to capitalize on the perfect moment in time for Libertarians, independents, fiscal conservatives, Tea Party activists, and any American voter looking for smaller government, dramatically reduced spending, lower taxes, fiscal responsibility and sanity. I will fight to turn the Libertarian Party into a 'big tent' for all of these voters. We must turn our party into a coalition of voters who will take back our country from big government, big unions, big corporations and corrupt incumbent politicians. Let the citizen revolution begin."
Root will now help to oversee the LP's annual budget, ballot access decisions, and campaign efforts to elect Libertarians to state and local offices.

Hinkle may be a good guy, by Root would have been better from a PR perspective. Oh well. May be he can do good in this position.

Root is the perfect combination of a used car salesman, infomercial huckster, and television evangelist

In politics, that works well.

Eric Dondero said...

Yeah, he's all those things and more. That's why he's a natural in politics.

Oy vey, some of these pointy-headed Libertarian intellectuals just don't get it!

Ay, Caramba!

If Wayne Root is a Republican, then why doesn't he go back to the Republican Party ?

Or maybe to a casino since gambling seems to be the only liberty issue he cares about.

Republican = Libertarian

Libertarian = Republican

Sometimes it's expedient to work with an 'R' by your name, sometimes with an 'L' by your name. They are virtually one in the same.

Just ask Warren Redlich, Libertarian nominee for Governor of New York, who happens to be a Republican.

"Republican friendly Root . . . "

Forget it. It is called the LIBERTARIAN PARTY not the kiss GOP ass party. There are enough Statist GOP ass kissers out there. The LP must stand on its own and fight for liberty.

Keep in mind that the "small government" GOP authored and protects the MARXIST redistribution of wealth progressive income tax.

"From each according to their ability, to each according to the need" - - - page 17 GOP platform.

So you say.

Reality, of course, says something entirely different.

On another note, I am glad that the LNC recognized Root for the opportunist that he is and didn't hand the Chairmanship over to him. Now, they need to come up with a decent candidate for 2012 that doesn't come across as a mixture of Joel Osteen and Ron Popeil

Not true. I saw speak last July 4the at the Texas State Capitol about how great it was that Nevada had legalized prostitution. Dondero will vouch for the fact that this is a true liberty issue.

Eric Dondero said...

Dan, are you implying that I may have used the services of prostitutes overseas when I was a sailor boy in the Navy?

Umm, let's see now: Spain, the Phillipines, and even Africa. But the distinction of prostitute and girlfriend in those lands is blurred.

I think what everyone needs to remember is that almost every Libertarian came from someplace else. Some came from the Republican party, and agreed with the principles of smaller government and economic freedom, but didn't feel the Republican party was sticking to those principles. Some came from the Democratic party and agreed with the principles of more individual freedoms, but didn't feel the party was applying those principles. Wayne obviously comes from the Republican party. Wayne obviously believes in the principles of individual freedom. Wayne is the perfect spokesman for the Libertarian Party! Is he a polished political speaker? Is any Libertarian??
