Over the Thanksgiving Holiday, Sheriff John Ingram of Brunswick County surprised constituents with a letter stating that he was officially joining the Republican Party. From the StarNewsOnline:
“As I embark upon this season of Thanksgiving, I have had the opportunity to reflect on my life and the opportunities and blessings bestowed upon me. It is after much reflection and contemplation that I have decided to join the Republican Party. Though my career in law enforcement as a Democrat has brought me to this place in time, it is my humble choice to live free as my conservative principles and discipline desire.”Chief Deputy Charles Miller is also expected to switch. Interestingly, Miller also serves on the local school board. And a switch to GOP would give Republicans complete control of the board.
Brunswick County is directly south of Wilmington. It has a population of 110,000. It includes the towns of Carolina Shores, Ocean Isle Beach and Sandy Creek.
