Dede Scozzafava drops out, endorses Doug Hoffman

BREAKING NEWS!!

Earlier this morning, Dede Scozzafava held an impromptu press conference at her campaign headquarters and officially suspended her campaign. Soon thereafter, she released a statement formally endorsing the candidacy of her fellow Republican running on the Conservative Party line, Doug Hoffman.

From the NY Times:

“In recent days, polls have indicated that my chances of winning this election are not as strong as we would like them to be,” Ms. Scozzafava said. “The reality that I’ve come to accept is that in today’s political arena, you must be able to back up your message with money — and as I’ve been outspent on both sides, I’ve been unable to effectively address many of the charges that have been made about my record.”
Note - Libertarian Republican blogger Stacy McCain, credited as one of the first two to break the story, has a detailed Update on the Hoffman endorsement.

UPDATE!

From Cliff Thies: Overnight poll: Hoffman now WAY ahead ... support now approaching 50 percent: Public Policy Polling (PPP)

There is no "free market" of real choices in American politics. The two liberal parties give you a choice of liberal candidate #1 or liberal candidate #2.

Only when there is a 3rd party properly funded do you see the liberal Republican fade away. And then like rats leaving a sinking ship GOP "leaders" start to endorse the Conservative Party candidate who already was kicking ass their ass.

Only the outside pressure of a 3rd party and the fear of defeat will change the GOP. Personally I would like to see the GOP go the way of the Federalists and Whigs.

And I'd like to see the Democratic Party USA go the way of the German National Socialists, who went defunct on May 2, 1945.

Ominous Parrallels between those two parties.

OH MAN! Keep tellin' us, we didn't get the clue the first thirty-two times. Hey, Gary, there's a wacky website with the goal to do something about it - it's called Libertarian Republican somethingorother.

I caught a few minutes of Axelrod on TV this morning and boy OH boy was he spinning.

"No place in the Republican Party for moderates" re: NY23.

It was about as much as I could stand.

I believe we have to keep pounding our Conservative friends with:

I'm against liberal social engineers, I'm also against conservative social engineers.

BTW I do not see near enough drug war articles here. Our Conservative friends need their noses rubbed in it.

And something on the origin of the public schools as a Protestant social engineering program.

Our friends need to be reminded of their failures. So they don't repeat them.
