RECORD TURN-OUT!!! LARGEST LIBERTARIAN PROTEST IN US HISTORY

It's official. All major media are now reporting between 1.5 to 2 million marches on Washington D.C. for the Tea Party Protest. Sponsored by libertarian groups such as Americans for Prosperity, Freedom Works, and self-described "libertarian" Fox News Host Glenn Beck, today's event is now the largest libertarian event in the history of the United States.

Editor's Note - This is an open thread. Share your thoughts of the day, if you were there, or if you watched it on TV, or as I did at a large screen Cinema/Draft House with fellow Houstonians. We will leave this post up as the headliner til Sunday morning.

UPDATE!

The UK Daily Mail's headline story this morning:

Up to two million march to US Capitol

UPDATE!

ABC News is now denying that they ever said "2 million"

UPDATE!

Various media and blogs are reporting that the DC Capitol Police estimated the crowd size to be "1.2 million."

UPDATE!

Leftward leaning MSNBC described it as a "massive rally." Reporter Tom Costello states that "our own people think hundreds of thousands... so many people that DC police had to close down Pennsylvania Ave."

Costello goes on to report that the protest was "organized by conservative and libertarian groups all echoing a common theme," than plays a clip from Sen. Jim Demint "we must stop this government takeover of health care..."

UPDATE!

Leftwing bloggers and news sites are now claiming that shots of the crowds and video taken showing crowd sizes were photo-shopped "fakes." Some are even suggesting that they were repeats taken from Ted Kennedy's funeral two weeks ago, and doctored to make it seem that they were the Tea Party protest.

Editor's Note - stating the obvious: The conspiracy theories from NetRoots obviously discount the weather. As one can see by the video above, it is clearly a cloudy day at the Capitol Mall as anyone in Washington DC could attest too.

Umm... Fox News just said "tens of thousands". Are you sure?

Daily Mail ... Millions, plural.

Likewise ABC. And CNN, but they're biased pro-libertarian, as we know.

Ir's a Reagan Revolution thing.

I just got back from it, and it was every part of the estimated 2 million. It was fantastic to have that many patriots come together at once. We got our first clue when a simple hotel booking 3 hours outside of town for Thursday night required multiple phone calls to get a room.

Republicans are not libertarians...
most of these people are just pissed a black guy is in charge...where were they when Bush was stealing more civil liberties with the bullshit 'Patriot Act', and carrying our asses off to some bullshit war in Iraq??

And remember, GW did commence the bailouts last year long before BHO took over.

Eric, you are a CIA operative. How much does "Operation Mockingbird" kick down to you? I hope it's worth it you traitorous prick.

By chance of course, there could be hope that they'll discover what a real libertarian is ...and ween themselves off of the neolibcon ball massage presented by Beck & Co.

The correct Libertarian position is TO SUPPORT THE PATRIOT ACT.

Unless you want Middle Eastern "students" who overstayed their student VISAs looking up plans for dirty bombs at our Nation's TAX-SUBSIDIZED!!! Public Libraries.

I fail to see how supporting terrorists and their activities on our taxpayer dime could be seen as "libertarian".

Please explain??

Oh, and that "bullshit war" you talk of, was brought against the murderer of 37 US Sailors on the USS Starke, a man also implicated in complicity with the Oklahoma City Bombing in 1995, AND who harbored Al Qaeda terrorists at two training camps in Iraq, Al Answar Al-Islam, and Salman Pac, right before the 9/11 attacks.

But hey, if you're a terrorist supporter, I could see how you wouldn't want any harm done to Saddam.

This is for real! I never thought I'd live to see it, but the silent majority is finally speaking up!

The chronology of how the 2 million number came into being:

C'mon eric, I'd thought you'd do some looking up before posting a number as important as this.

I was on the lawn at the Washington Monument at 7:30 am. There was a group from Ohio staging there and I just hung out for a while and took it in. We headed for Pennsylvania Ave. around 8:30 or 9:00 and when we got up to the corner of 4th it was astonishing.
People were streaming into the square quickly engulfing everything. I milled around a little and then camped out at the trafic light in the center of what would have been the intersection of3rd and Pen.
We were told by the Fire Dept. to start heading for the Capitol around 10:30. They were not ready for that many people that quickly and quietly. It was total gridlock.
I made it to the set of steps just off the lawn in front or the Capital. People were already ringing the reflecting pool and there was nowhere left to go. After 2 hours of listening to speeakers I turned around and there were still people streaming in from Pennsyvania Ave. The police at that time were estimating the crowd at 1.2 million.
I marched in the Parade there for the Bi-Centennial celebration while I was in Boot Camp. We also marched in Philly the next day. I have been in crowds measured in millions and this was definitely one of them. I can easily believe 1 to 2 milion. The police started sending people off the the side streets at around 12:30. The crowd was much wider than just the central portion of the "park" area.

The highest estimate I've seen is "2.5 million" at one point from CNN.

I wonder if perhaps it might have been 3 million?

I'm sticking with 1.5 as my safe estimate, but wouldn't be surprised if we learn a day or two from now, it was actually closer to 3 million.

Eric,
Even Michell Malkin believes that the million statistic is an error.

I don't always believe Michelle Malkin, thank you.

She's great on some things. But she seems to have this penchent (sp?) for turning on fellow Rightwingers, such as the Birther issue.
