This year’s Gubernatorial Races:McDonnell’s re-establishes a solid lead in Virginia
Christie still ahead in New Jersey
By Clifford F. Thies
Republican Bob McDonnell appears to have re-established a solid lead in Virginia. Taking four recent polls into consideration (Rasmussen, SurveyUSA, Insider Advantage and PPP [a Democratic polling organization]), it looks like 51 for McDonnell to 43 for Democrat Creigh Deeds. Unless the Democrats can come up with something more meaningful than a thirty year old masters thesis, this looks like a pick-up for the GOP.
Likewise taking four recent polls into consideration in the New Jersey race (Quinnipiac, Democracy Corps [D], Rasmussen and Strategic Vision [R]), Republican Chris Christie appears to be slightly ahead, 44 to 39 for incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine to 9 for independent Chris Daggert. Although Christie’s lead is narrow, there probably is some “hidden support” for him. With high negatives for Corzine, it is likely that the undecideds are mostly undecided about whether to vote for the Republican or the independent. It is also likely that, as the day of the election nears, some of the initial support enjoyed by the independent will shift to Christie given that it is now clear that the independent does not have a realistic chance of winning.
One Deep Blue, one trending Blue; both go GOP Red 2009.

I'd be shocked if NJ went republican, but stranger things have happened.
I live in VA, and have been paying attention to the McDonnell/Deeds campaign closely. Frankly I'm surprised with Deeds' numbers being that high, with this dismal debate, and even the Post ceding a bit of praise to McDonnell.
I hope our state can go back to being 'red'. Our current governor is weak, being known for nothing more than a pep rally coordinator and cheerleader for obama.
PREDICTION: If both states vote for the Liberal Republican Party then at the end of four to eight years both state governments will have expanded and spending will be up. Big Brother Socialism/Fascism will be eagerly marching forwrd.
The Libertarian Party should be running and funding REAL candidates for Governor and perhaps throw the elections to the Democrats.
The German elections show the importance of smaller parties. The Classic Liberal Free Democrats want even bigger tax cuts than the "moderate" CDU. They gained 93 seats in Parliament and will drag the moderate party to the right. Libertarians totally need to throw close elections to the Democrats to put pressure on the Liberal GOP to reform or die.
Eric - I took a hop over to Chucky's shack and he's busy bashing Sarah Palin again! Not only that but he's going after Robert Spencer for being bigoted against Muslims! Nary a post to be found criticizing A Democrat. But that's really what Chuckster is now - a lefty Democrat.
Oh and now his minions are going on and on about how the Palins are "weirdos"...
