Liberal Libertarians continue to turn on ObamaResponding to the news yesterday, that: "The chief executive and chairman of troubled US car maker General Motors will step down at once, at the request of Barack Obama," longtime Libertarian activist Tom Palmer wrote on his blog:
Welcome to a Fascist….er, Managed Democracy?Palmer is the former head of Students for a Libertarian Society, a former campaign staffer for Libertarian Ed Clark for President in 1980, and presently Vice President for International Programs and a Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute, as well as director of Cato University
I was so happy to see the back of George W. Bush and his administration...
[Bush's] successor has decided to follow even more carefully the examples set by Benito Mussolini and Vladimir Putin, and has sacked the head of a company. That is a decision for the shareholders of a private firm to make, not for the head of state. What next? Will private firms end up in the hands of friends of the president? Will the White House Chief of Staff serve simultaneously as head of a major state-directed company? Will journalists who criticize the president end up shot in the head in elevators?

Fascism is a very overused term. I have never taken a course i political science, but from what I've read Fascism is the control of key industries by the state (without state ownerhip which is technically part of the communist doctrine).
So, IMHO, there is always a degree of Fascism, even if it takes the form of tax policy, regulation, or quotas as in the farm subsidy program.
I'm sure some of the posters here can correct me on this.

Word is out that Barack Motors will indeed have additional WH folks staffing what used to be GM. I can't wait to see a car that runs on Unicorn dandruff.
Though I am not in favor of his politics, I am not sure Obama has reached the levels of Mussolini or Hitler yet. And I actually agree with him asking Wagoner to step down. I know that is not a popular opinion, but I think it was the right choice. They did take our money in the bail-out, which means if they don't perform than he's gotta go. Get someone in there that can spend our money in such a way that will insure that jobs are kept, which is why we had a bail-out in the first place. I didn't agree with the bail-out, but if we are going to have one, let's watch where our money if going. Now, to all the companies that didn't take the bail-out, Obama needs to keep his nose out of it, but I don't see this particular situation as fascist. Many of his other ideas are, but not really this one.

A mostly political blog that isn't Republican or Democrat.
P.S. I liked the Unicorn comment, that's funny.
