There's still plenty of time for the RNC to throw her under the bus and back over her a few times, and depending on who gets the chair, may be several times. The country clubbers, moderates and log cabinites want no part of her. It'll be interesting if she still wants it. Even then she'll have to beat BHO.

Nah, that ain't gonna happen. She's got it, if she wants it.

Could you imagine the outrage of all the Sarah Palin-iacs if that were to happen?

Hell, we'd probably run her third party then. And remember, she's got a history of being close to third parties.

Will someone please explain to me how these = "libertarian":

1) Being for the No Banker Left Behind Bailout (before she was against it)

2) Being for the Bridge to Nowhere (before she was against it)

3) Imposing a windfall profit tax on oil companies (ultimately paid for by the American consumer), the proceeds of which were given to Alaskans

4) Hiring lobbyists to garner an increase in federal dollars for Alaska

5) Growing the government as Mayor

6) Mocking civil liberty concerns wrt the WoT

7) Opposing marijuana decriminalization

Even then she'll have to beat BHO.

Beating BO will be a cakewalk. Their Keynesian madness is sure to exacerbate our economic crisis. Have a little faith, man!

We'll see in a couple years. As much as we all need to work together, the country clubbers and moderates need to rethink things. Before Reagan, who was the last decent republican? Coolidge? TR? Even TR was somewhat progressive.

Rae, no offense, but you've got your facts wrong on at least half of those points.

BTW, why won't the libertarian movement answer this question:

If Sarah Palin is not a libertarian, than why is it that the liberal media - most notably the Boston Globe on Oct. 16 in a full-length article - slams her for being one?

And why is it that social conservatives used to criticize her for being "too libertarian" back when she first ran in 2006.

Can't have it both ways. Can't say she ain't a libertarian, and then just ignore all the evidence to the contrary that she is.

Eric Dondero said...

Funny you should bring up Marijuana. Cause that's PRECISELY!!! what the social cons used in 2005/06 against her, accusing her of being a Marijuana legalization advocate, and noting that she had once boasted about her own Marijuana use.

Again, can't have it both ways. Can't claim she's not a libertarian, and ignore all the facts that she is.

The Boston Globe article on Oct. 16 which we chronicled here at LR and is in the Archives, slammed Palin for being an "extremist libertarian who slashed local government in Wasilla."

They brought up her opposition to any and all Zoning as Mayor, her support for Property Rights and against eminent domain, and her "rightwing fanatical" support for tax cuts.

And Rae, you claim that she actually grew government in Wasilla?

No offense intended, but the Globe has a staff of hundreds, fact checkers, writers, ect... You're just one single unpaid individual.

I'll trust the Globe's account.

Adding to the list:

8) Supporting the Federal Marriage Amendment

We'll see it real hard, RG.

I am not a fan of TR (but McCain and Palin sure are). You're right - it was Coolidge.

She came out against mj decrim during the election, Eric. For the Children™.

I haven't read it but I'll take a shot in the dark and say the Boston Globe (like most media outlets) has a fundamental misunderstanding of what libertarianism actually is.

And Rae, you claim that she actually grew government in Wasilla?

She did.

If the Republicans put Palin up in 2012, they deserve the same arse-whipping they received in this election.

The American people don't like losers. If you don't get elected the first time you're a part of the party's ticket, then your chance of becoming President in the future is pretty much nil. If you couldn't convince enough people to vote for you the first time, it will be even harder to convince people that you can win for your party.

Palin decided to hitch her wagon to McCain's horse even though she wasn't ready for the national scene. Perhaps if she had waited until she had a better grasp of how campaigns work, she might have had a shot at being the first female President. Now, that's not going to happen. She brought it upon herself.

Ever heard of Ronald Reagan, Bint? During the 1976 primaries, Reagan lost the Republican nomination to Gerald Ford. Four years later, he came back to give the peanut brain Carter, a huge ass whipping, with almost 98% of the electoral vote.

Rae:
TR was a progressive, but I liked him as a person. He probably was the smartest man in the White House in the 20th century and probably the toughest as well, in other words, one of a kind. He also was the only president from Long Island, where I am from.

William,

I'm referring to those who ARE nominated to the Pres/Vice-Pres ticket for their party but don't win the general election. If they are part of a losing team, despite getting the party nomination, then they're toast. They might as well not even waste their time trying to convince folks to give them a second shot.

Rae is right and spot on, as usual. You can add the road to nowhere, which has actually been built. If Palin wants to run as a libertarian Republican presidential candidate in 2012, she would have to disassociate herself from the bailout she supported as McCain's running mate, and a few other things. Otherwise she would have no shot at it. The majority of the Republican congress representatives still voted against the bailout (initially more than 2/3).

The Right Guy said...

Until they got their pork.

Everyone knows being pro-bailout is the hallmark of libertarianism. I mean, if Dondi says it, how can it be wrong?
