Leftwing on-line activists from 4Chan have hacked into Sarah Palin's private email account, and are now making the contents available all over the internet. According to Peter Rost Blog:
At around midnight last night the group gained access to governor Palin's email account "email@example.com" and handed over the contents to the government sunshine site Wikileaks.org.Tech Voice is reporting that one of the hackers got Palin's password:
somebody was able to compromise “firstname.lastname@example.org,” by apparently discovering the password to the account. The password was posted to a public forum - and a field day ensued.Since the start of the Iraq War, Leftist Anti-War activists and even some libertarians have been accusing President Bush and Republicans of promoting policies that would invade personal privacy, including on-line internet communications. Hackers now invading Republican Palin's privacy could backfire, even with some civil libertarian privacy advocates not ordinarily friendly to Republicans.
Prominent Tech Blogger Dave Wilson of Liquidmatrix comments:
"I wouldn’t wish this treatment on anyone. There is activism and then there is just down right improper behaviour. I’m not a fan of Palin but, I don’t think it was fair for this information to be posted."Paul McNamara of Network World is commenting:
Obviously, the method by which the information was obtained and posted will be hugely controversial. (And inclusion of the pictures seems gratuitous, if not mean.)UPDATE!
The story just broke in the Dallas Morning News. Also, Wired has picked up on it. They are reporting that:
The internet griefers known as Anonymous took credit for the intrusion... The cache of stolen data contains five screenshots from Palin's account... a list of Palin's e-mail contacts and two photos of her children. The Ultra-Liberal Blog Huffington Post has just run a story, and have even posted Screenshots of Sarah Palin's private emails.
TIME Magazine has just picked up on the story. They are confirming that the story "is not a hoax."
Michelle Malkin is reporting on her blog that:
They have used Bristol Palin’s illegally obtained private cell phone number from her mom’s private account, recorded her voicemail message, and posted it on their website.
They have reprinted her husband Todd’s private e-mail address and son Track’s private e-mail address.
